About Me

Growing up on the bayou of Louisiana, I always knew I wanted to be an astronaut. I graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and then receieved my PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I soon was recruited by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and went to work at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas (great cafeteria!.) From there I was sent to study at the Special Astrophysical Observatory in the Causcacus mountains in the Karachaevo-Cherkeski portion of southern Russia (not so great cafeteria!.) There I trained to accompany Cosmonauts Nikolai Budarin and Yuri Malenchenko to the International space station on the Endeavor 9 mission, which went off without a hitch. I now live in Los Angeles and go back and forth from the NASA Jet Propulsion Research Laboratory in Pasadena, CA to the McMurdo Research Facility in Antarctica.I've been chillin' (literally!) at the McMurdo Station a lot recently. I'm working hand-in-hand with the National Science Foundation on solar astronomy and cosmic ray physics studies - focusing on long-duration balloon flights. It's fun down here in Antarctica, but man I can't wait to get back out there amongst the stars.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Neil Armstrong. I already met Buzz Aldrin! We spent the weekend together in Lake Tahoe last summer. Let's just say they don't call him "Buzz" for nothing.
