Don

This talented graduate of the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton School of Music is a multi-instrumentalist experienced in all styles of music, most notably jazz. While studying percussion under Daniel Bukvich, Don was fortunate to experience many unique opportunities for growth and learning while playing in concerts, jam sessions, and attending clinics with musicians such as Vincent Falcone, Kevin Axe, Claudio Roditi, Russel Malone, Roy Hargrove, Mark Kerry and John Stowell. After college Don worked with Carnival Cruise Lines playing in the showband on three different ships for over a year. Back in Montana Don had many memorable experiences playing bass in the Jack Waller Trio, as percussionist for the Glacier Symphony under John Zoltek, percussionist in the Flathead Valley Community Band, and as guitarist with the Don Lawrence Orchestra. Don has also played with the Jay Thomas Quartet comprised of Vancouver's own Russ Botten and Tony Foster of Seattle. Russ and Tony also joined Don when he played with Seattle jazz legend Floyd Standifer.Two years passed in Los Angeles where, after a short stint playing bass for Americana Folk Rock band The Effects of Cable Television, he played with Sue Jin Kim, The Larry Bagby Band, award winning vocalist Rachel Bade Mcmurphy, and many others.After a short period in Montana playing again with the new improved Jack Waller Trio featuring Steve Nelson on guitar as well as more of the groups listed above Don moved to Spokane Washington where he can be seen playing with the Groove Patrol, subbing on maracas with Son Dulce and others.No matter what style, instrument, or situation, a performance with Don promises energy, passion, and quality musicianship.
