With the release of her third album, Laurie Jones cements her status as a full-serviced indie singer-songwriter. Jones’s third album is musically to the point and genuine. It's centerpiece is her remarkable vocal instrument, which ranges from a sonorous alto to a soaring soprano. The opening track, “It Is Well with My Soul†is a glorious 19th century hymnal where Jones sets the albums tone that evolves from despair and grief to forgiveness and hope.Using the essentials of her touring band, Jones leads each song with a strong melody line with lyrics that are at times emotionally complex. “This record comes from the music I really loveâ€, explains Jones. “I allowed my gospel, country and southern rock influences to face off with my new wave, glam and hard rock demonsâ€. In doing so Jones has created a bit of “transgenre rock ‘n’rollâ€.The new single “Overrated†opens with a sassy drum beat, as Jones makes comment on the state the drive-by music industry. Of course it is all in fun, as Jones makes reference to her personal challenge of straddling the grandeur or rock’n’roll celebrity and the gutter of maintaining a day job…..which she has since left! With songs of vulnerability, disappointment, revolution and renaissance, Jones offers up another smart- rock album.Jones continues her alliance with Walter Howland on bass and Steve Peer on drums. She also has invited a variety of guest artist to help create sounds of soul, Latin, bluegrass, Celtic, southern rock, and “early†Stones.
Jones continues to soar way above the pop rock fray.
