"There’s a freshness, a spaciousness to this band...that is very attractive....The great thing is no-one tries too hard, no bandwagons are jumped on, but a good time is had is had by all within a relaxed ensemble set-up where the composition and overall sound is bigger than any individual...The Moss Project will appeal to a range of audiences, from proggy Porcupine Tree to Metheny acolytes, from Radiohead, even to Joe Pass fans." Jazzwise (Andy Robson)=====================================================
========="VISION is the only word for music of this much creativity, boldness and expansiveness...A record of endless fascination and immediate accessibility." The Manchester Evening News (Al Brownlee)===================================================
============="The compositions all show imagination, originality and vitality. Comparisons with more established groups...are tempting but ultimately futile when acknowledging that Moss Project actually doesn't sound quite like anything else...Vision is a fascinating and hypnotically satisfying album which demands repeated plays." All About Jazz (Roger Farbey)=====================================================
====="Jazz can stand away from the mainstream, making it inaccessible. The Moss Project, however, manage to bridge the gap...giving the tunes touches of rock and indie, and offering something easily understandable to the untrained ear, while never diluting the genuine love of jazz at the music's heart." BBC (Chris Long)=======================================================
=========="This group is totally unique in Manchester...Freed’s phrasing and melodies are at times just achingly beautiful. This is a truly accomplished musician but his skills as a composer are really exceptional...both jazz and folk, both intricate and accessible. The perfect way to begin this year’s Manchester Jazz Festival" The Sound of Now

=====The music that comes out of the Moss Project is testament to its inspirational and eclectic range of influences. Whilst studying composition and performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Moss formed the sextet to provide a platform for new, progressive and exciting music. The outcome was in equal measures Metheny, Stravinsky, Radiohead and Shooglenifty. Combine these with rhythmic intrigue and weaving counterpoint and you have the unique sound of the Moss Project. Now based in Manchester, the group features some of the city's top players, each bringing their own distinctive flavour to the mix. With an instrumental line up of guitar, violin, saxophones, drums, bass and keyboards, the Moss Project is an innovative new project well worth listening out for. Since their debut gig in November '07, the group have been fast acquiring a sizeable following of listeners of all backgrounds and ages and have performed in most of the North's top music venues. The group's debut album, 'Vision', is now available, having received some fantastic reviews and they have recently completed a very successful German tour including Hamburg and Berlin in April 2009.
Moss studied composition with Nigel Osborne, Marina Adamia and Michael Edwards at Edinburgh University and Jon Damian and Marc Rossi at Berklee. He has had compositions performed all over the world including Washington, NYC, Boston, Malta, Edinburgh and Manchester. His Requiem was recorded and performed by Edinburgh University Chamber Choir.
