K8 Stewart Experience

About Me

K8 was exposed to jazz music at a very early age when her father, a radio news reporter, would take home the albums record companies sent to the station promoting their artists. By age 5, she was already a big fan of Charlie Byrd, nursing her Shirley Temple next to her parents on their frequent visits to The Showboat Lounge, Charlie's club in Washington D.C.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~"As a teenager, all my friends were begging their moms and dads to let them go see Boston and Aerosmith. I got mine to take me to see Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Pass and Oscar Peterson.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I love all kinds of music, but Jazz wraps itself inside and around you - you just can not separate the feeling from the music because the feeling IS the music.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Putting together this record I wanted to get the best available Jazz artists in Los Angeles and I was very lucky: Jameson Trotter is an incredible pianist and musical director - its hard to tell where he stops and the piano starts. Sherman Ferguson recently passed away, but he had more talent than any drummer I've ever heard ~ and he has played with everyone who is anyone. Dan Lutz, bass, has a really funky style all his own and brings so much to the table. John Baxter graciously offered to sit in with his guitar at the last minute. He is now producing rock bands after having made a name with the English pop band Reflex whose 80s hit single you may remember - The Politics of Dancing.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tony Ferguson (A&M/Interscope Records), my producer, advised me that the songs you ultimately decide on can really make or break the record! As a result, I was so careful that ultimately deciding on the songs for my latest CD took more time than doing everything else combined!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I always loved Leonard Cohen's, I'm Your Man. The whole smoky sensuality of being so enamored of someone that you would do absolutely ANYTHING for them. So I re-did the arrangement and gave it a sexy latin rhythm, then shook it up a little lyrically to fit my more feline sexuality.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I had originally recorded, They All Come Back, for songwriter Frank Palmieri as a demo track for a film. It really moved me because...lets face it, they do all come back,... and I gave it a more 40's flavored arrangement.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Everyone sings, How Long Has This Been Going On, like they just found out their lover was having an affair - but if you really pay attention to the lyrics, the singer realizes: "Hey, I am in love...when did this happen?" - so I wanted the arrangement to be upbeat and bright at the end like the way you feel when you first realize you are in love. There is truly a piece of me in each one of these songs.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~K8 hopes you enjoy listening to these songs and looks forward to sharing more music with you.
