It’s not too often a new rap artist comes in the game now a days and gets taken seriously. With Hip-hop in a state of emergency since the passing of our two fallen soldiers, Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.†Wallace and Tupac Shakur, the genre hasnt seen anyone worthy of the crown. Although, Shawn “Jay-Z†Carter was once considered “The King of New York,†the then lyrical phenom hung up his jersey to be the new leading force behind the greatest rap label of all time, Def Jam Records. At a time when New York was the primary home to Hip-hop and it birthed some of its most talented emcees and rapping with substance mattered (circa 1980s-90s). The entire culture of Hip-hop has changed drastically since then, in the new millennium, the new trend is rhyming about money, cars, jewelry and women. The art form is not the same and rappers are too caught up in the glamour and things people in everyday life dont witness. There was a time when the music was real, it was sincere and it came straight from the heart but now, it seems like that era has came and gone and we're all living in a fantasy world.
As one of our new generation’s youngest and talented Hip-hop artist, S. Yorker (which stands for the Southern New Yorker) is here to save the genre. Born Isaac H. Lee III on June 4, 1989 on Long Island, New York. S. Yorker, who is also known as Troy Baker has also been through some ups and downs in his life. He’s a child of divorced parents and has moved back and forth from NY to Georgia over the years, he has lived in Brooklyn, Harlem and now currently resides in the Bronx (home to the late great Big Pun, Jennifer Lopez and Remy Ma). This 16 year-old ‘round the way kid from the block is not your average everyday teenager, a lyrical genius with rhymes far beyond those of his youth. He currently attends Washington Irving High School in Manhattan, NY and is studying Law, he is a bright young star in the making and is one focused individual. Leo (the CEO of GoldenChylde Entertainment) discovered him at a music business non-profit organization called Add Joy to Learning (at Town Hall's Repertory Company High School), which provides educational music seminars to young people. Since then, Leo has taken him under his wings and has been molding him to become the next big thing in rap music. S. Yorker is a force to be reckoned with, he represents the east and the south and combines the two really well, his raw street sound is of up north and when hes not kicking knowledge, you can hear him spitting over a dirty south instrumental. An excellent storyteller and a brillant lyricist with a voice of a twenty-something year old with potential to become the next rising star in the music industry. Not one to follow the trends of today, S. Yorker fuses thoughts behind his words and when he feels like switching it up, this cute-faced poster boy can pen a love song to show his versatility.
GoldenChylde Music Group is his home and with his very first release on the way, S. Yorker is ready to prove to the world that he has what it takes to hang with the best of them. Having already dropped hot verses for labelmates like MikeLyrik and Yung Scorpio and a remix to 2005’s “Come Fly With Me†by Brooklyn rap star Foxy Brown, this hustler is about business and wants you to know that his age should never be a factor. He’s mature and you can tell just by listening to one of his verses. Already planning for takeover, onboard for his debut is in-house producer, Da Arsonist (who will be providing the majority of the production on the album) as well as other aspiring up and coming beatmakers. Just a quick listen to “Eastside†and you will know that most contenders in his age bracket fall short. “And admit that your rhymes is bullsh*t/you say you had a gun but never loaded a full clip/yeah Im young, never caught in a Jail Cell/Im mean in the street, known as a young Hell Rell.†With great confidence and a swagger to deliver like no other, S. Yorker dares any challengers, if you want to battle, he’s got bars for you, if you need a great 16 bars, he's got that too. “He’s so ill, his flow alone is nasty,†boasts Leo. “I’m signing him because I believe he's capable of bringing back the true essence to Hip-hop, not because he’ll be hot for the moment. There’s going to be longevity with this kid, mark my word.†With a classic album on the way and plenty of upcoming guest appearances to follow, how can you miss out on such a talent? S. Yorker is the future...
