About Me

Poppin' Fresh is an artist raised in Berkeley since the age of three and was never one to try to fit into the mainstream. He's been writing lyrics since elementary school, but didn't decide to get serious about music until 1998, when he began recording with his good friend Nick "B. Down" Okarocha. His first appearance on record was on B. Down's first independent release in 1998, featured on the song "Bombay Lyricism." Poppin' Fresh has since appeared on two more of B. Down's projects, his second solo album and a compilation - both featuring production by Poppin' Fresh, with a collaborative album in the works. In 2000, Poppin' Fresh decided to dive more into the music, and sold his car to buy a Korg Triton. In August of 2001, he put together his first solo album - he only burned 300 copies of it at his house; gave some away, and sold over two hundred on the street with his boombox. With little musical training (self taught by books on the piano at age ten - stopped playing by age twelve) he managed to put together his own brand of melodic hip-hop beats, composing songs that covered a spectrum of topics. Still staying away from the mainstream sound and content, Poppin' Fresh devised a style with which he plans to change the course of popular music today.
