About Me

Veronique --
[adjective]:
Tasting like strawberries
Here goes... I'm a school psychology doctoral student at St. John's University. I say this first since it consumes the majority of my time. I work part-time with developmentally disabled adults in different group-home settings. As a function of both my culture and personality, I spend a lot of time with my family, although (thankfully) I moved into my own apartment last year. I am honest and I tend not to hold back. Althought this causes most of my friends to jokingly refer to me as a "spicy jalepeno", they've admitted that they secretly prefer it. I respect and appreciate people who are honest and forthright.I love movies and television which is why I don't have cable (I would flunk out of school). I admire people who are active and am constantly trying to nurture this habit in myself. I love to be surrounded by beautiful things and tend to live beyond my means according to some people (ahem...dad). I love to travel (who doesn't!) but don't do it often enough. I'm a tame thrill seeker (read: roller-coasters, jetski, parasailing, etc.). My family and friends are very important to me and I would do anything for them. I have an unexplainable aversion to celery, I hate pigeons, and I loathe Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Other than that... If you REALLY want to know ... ASK! There's NO substitute for conversation... I won't bite... hard... :) You can catch me at V33HAYEK on AIM but make sure to tell me where you got my info otherwise I probably won't answer. In all seriousness, I think people are way too busy in this life and bypass a lot of relationships that could be rewarding... even if they're short-lived.

My Interests

I'll try anything once. I love being spontaneous and adventurous, especially when I have a partner-in-crime! I love movies, traveling, learning about new things, museums, shopping, meeting new people...

Huh... I just realized that when you put yourself on paper, it makes you look really shallow and uninteresting. See "About Me" for more information if you really want to know my interests. :)

I'd like to meet:

You should know I'm a sucker for nice eyes and a nice smile. If you make me laugh (with you not at you) you are likely to gain a friend for life. I'm on this site to meet new people (how cliche but true). I find my circle of friends lately to be rather sparse. I'd like to expand my circle and find people that are fun to hang out with and can carry on a conversation at the same time.

If I'm talking in general though, I'd like to meet people who have interesting ideas and are open to other people's ideas... People who are honest but thoughtful of others' feelings... People who are secure enough and comfortable enough in themselves to accept and appreciate others... People who have a sense of humor in general, about themselves, and about life... People who are not afraid to say what's in their hearts... People who really know how to enjoy life, people who live for the present but never stop looking towards the future... How's that? :)

Oh! and...Kiefer Sutherland and Dane Cook... :)

Music:

Often told I have an "eclectic" taste in music, I can pretty much appreciate anything. I don't limit myself to one style, always exploring, looking for a particular "sound" or lyrics that speak to me.

Movies:

Oh man...you're going to be sorry they asked. I love movies, and continue to grow my collection. Much like my music taste, I don't have one particular style, preferring to watch everything. I figure, even if it's bad, it's bound to start a conversation. :)

Favorite movies include Fight Club, The Notebook, Serendipity, The Island, The Pianist, Cinderella Man, The Village, Skeleton Key, The Wedding Singer, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, 50 First Dates, Office Space, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, V for Vendetta, Rent, Chicago, Life is Beautiful, The Family Stone, Wedding Crashers, Ever After, Sliding Doors, Derailed, Finding Nemo ...I guess you get the idea... :)

Television:

24!!!!! (Thanks a lot, Steve!) I don't have cable so my knowledge of TV is pretty limited... Family Guy is awesome, Simpsons is great, and sometimes I catch South Park. I LOVE Lost and ER... I think Scrubs is the greatest comedy on television at the moment, although I'm starting to appreciate How I Met Your Mother too! I enjoy House and Grey's Anatomy though they are not on my must-watch list.

Books:

Huge Stephen King fan, also loving Dean Koontz lately. I'll read pretty much anything that piques my interest. Freakonomics is a pretty good book. Unfortunately, there isn't that much time to read for pleasure when you're in graduate school...

Heroes:

As dorky as this sounds, I'd have to say my parents. They are truly remarkable people who literally built their life from nothing.
