AUDUN AUTOMAT:
Audun Automat was a sound that I had in my head for a couple of months. I had been listening to a lot of 70’s European freejazz and early ECM stuff and this dirty, rock-influenced, freejazz-sound grew in my head. I called up a few of my favourite musicians, organised a session and, to my great pleasure, the band sounded instantly like the sound in my head. The band consists of some of the most talented musicians on the young Norwegian jazz-scene including: Jørgen Mathisen - sax, Eivind Lønning - trumpet, Erlend Slettevoll - fender rhodes, Ole-Thomas Kolberg - drums, Audun Ellingsen - bass.
SPHINX:
Sphinx is a British-Norwegian jazz quartet, formed in 2000 in Leeds, UK, where all four musicians were studying at the time. The group members are now resident in Oslo, and the quartet is still working and performing both at the British and Norwegian jazz scene. Sphinx works within the classic quartet-format of saxophone, piano, bass and drums, playing exclusively original material. Sphinx..music is characterised by improvisational freedom in a modern form of expression, yet clearly rooted in jazz tradition. The musicians are always on the look for new musical impulses, and as long as they appear, Sphinx music will evolve.
