Hello my name is Rei Ayanami. I have spent most of my life in NERV labs for various tests and as such I never had the chance to live life like a normal person, until recently in my newest school. My closest friend I would have to say is Shinji, we had an awkward first encounter but that was quickly forgotten. As for Shinji's childhood friend Asuka well, we don't always get along so well. Shinji and his friends were all chosen to be EVA pilots like me, EVAs are some type of device NERV have created to fight these stange creatures they call Angels.
