I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I was born, raised, educated and generally confused in the City of Detroit. I don't know exactly what the attraction to this city is - I've lived here for all of my 55 years and I'm probably here for the duration. Consequently, I'm pretty passionate about things Detroit including Wayne State University - my undergraduate alma mater. Don't say anything bad about Detroit!I was bitten by a political bug at an early age. Part of it was cultural context - going to high shcool in the late 60's with all that was happening then. But the other part is a restlessness and impatience with disingenuousness in people, institutions or situations. In 1974 at the age of 23 I was elected on a state-wide ballot to be a member of the Board of Governors of Wayne State University. I served two eight year terms. Great real life education.I went to law school at night at the Detroit College of Law (somewhere near the third base line of what is now Comerica Park). My first real day job was directing political affairs at New Detroit, Inc. - the Urban Coalition formed after the riots in 1967. From there I was recruited to be an Executive Assistant to Mayor Coleman A. Young. I spent almost four years learning from a true political master. I was involved in site preperation for Detroit's first Grand Prix, negotiations in the sale of the Joe Lois Arena to the Red Wings organization, contractor selection for the people mover and a lot of other things. To this day I look at Detroit and often wonder W.W.C.D? (What would Coleman do)I've been in the private practice of law for most of the last 20 years. I head a small firm in Royal Oak where we do estate planning, retirement planning and entertainment law. For the last dozen or so years I've been an adjunct instructor of Business Ethics in the MBA program at Wayne State. Teaching is a real joy. The pay is lousey but I'd probably do it for free. (Don't tell the Dean).Dan Einheuser,(my number one friend - below) bass playing impresario extraordinaire, is my legacy and gift to the future. Diane Willard is the love of my live. It will be 22 years together next May.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me, And when it is gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." -- Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

Saying Good-Bye To Good Friends, Vicarious And Real

You were a very good audience!   This week I had the sad task of saying good-bye to one of my mentors.  I met Eric Bockstael when I was 18 years old and a first year undergraduate student at...
