About Me

RootsySurfCocktailSingersongwriterPop on bass, drums and a guitar with and without vocals. That, in a nutshell, is what the Dutch band Koko is about. Most of the Koko songs are written by guitarman and singer Ron Smith. On their first demo-cd "a taste of Koko", the songs vary from twangy surftunes to melancholic singersongwriterstuff. Their second cd "this is Koko", is strictly instrumental containing guitartunes that are influenced by the great sound of surf and cocktailmusic from the sixties. On their third cd "Koko goes blues" - sorry, not available on this site - the band is playing blues related songs with a mambo and rumba twist. Typically Koko you might say. You never know what they will do next time. There is a rumour going on however that the band is planning to make a new instrumental album full of brandnew, hipshaking and fingerlicking Koko-tunes. But don't be surprised if it turns out to be a singersongwriter's thing. Typically Koko indeed!
