I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a grizzled 26 years old--at least I appear grizzled on the day(s) in a row I don't feel like shaving (which are many). I appear to be getting more easy-going as I get older. I don't quite understand it, but I am attempting to. I think George Harrison was criminally overlooked in the Beatles. I am in love with the concept of snow days (at least when I can actually experience one). I am in love with the parenthetical statement. I am attempting to decide what I should have for dinner. I get easily distracted when music is on-anywhere. I have no problem with zucchini like some of my friends.

My Interests

Music--either playing or listening, Reading, Theatre, Art Museums, Movies, Live Shows!!, Boggle (nerd, I know), finding a new restaurant, getting worked by high schoolers in basketball, pretending to be a photographer with a point-and-shoot, the portrait Sandy by Walt Kuhn, enormous close-ups of Miles Davis on my wall. My current guilty pleasure is Stick Cricket online (http://www.stickcricket.com). I don't quite understand the game at all, but I'm getting pretty good....I think.

I'd like to meet:

Someone who isn't bothered when you take the long way home. Someone who understands that good music extends past what MTV tells you is good. Someone who is attempting to make the world they live in better, instead of just consuming. I'd also love to meet the people who thought up Burger King's Croissanwich--quite simply the best fast food breakfast sandwich EVER.

Music:

Aqualung, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, Troubled Hubble, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Aretha, Matt Pond PA, Eisley, Mae, Steve Taylor, Ben Folds, Death Cab, Augustana, The Killers, Cool Hand Luke, Pavement, Ella Fitzgerald, Romantica, Olympic Hopefuls, Sleeping at Last, Elliott Smith, Magnet, Josh Rouse, Pedro the Lion, Brandtson, The Frames, Walking Concert, Jeff Buckley, Sunny Day, David Gray, Wilco, Radiohead, Beatles, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Mingus, Medeski, Martin, & Wood, The Arcade Fire, Winterpills, The Kinks, The Faces, The Postal Service, Ryan Adams Nada Surf, Dylan, Wheat, Guster, Nickel Creek, Foo Fighters, The Glad Version, Led Zeppelin, Love-Cars--does anyone know who this band is?, Jimmy Eat World, Pete Yorn, and others.

Movies:

Garden State, Eternal Sunshine, any Wes Anderson movie, Big Fish!!!; LOTR, any John Cusack film (besides Con Air), Ocean's Eleven, I am Trying to Break Your Heart, Charade, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, Empire Records, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dr. Strangelove, Shakma, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Zoolander, and a guilty pleasure of Bond films--but only when there's a marathon of some sort on one channel or another.

Television:

Arrested Development, Mythbusters, Conan, Daily Show, I love the 80's, MacGyver, American Gladiators, Monk, Pimp My Ride--but only the ones with the old paint and body guy.

Books:

No Man is an Island. After that, we have The Last Gentleman, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, LOTR, anything by Bill Bryson, C.S. Lewis, Philip Yancey, Brennan Manning, G. K. Chesterton, Henri Nouwen, Flannery O'Connor, and Walker Percy

Heroes:

Jesus, Rich Mullins, Musically: John Lennon, Jeff Buckley, Jeff Tweedy, Neil Young

Why You'd Want to Live Here.

So tonight, I, along with a few of my closest friends, made our merry way to volunteer at the coffeeshop that lets my band practice there for free in exchange for pretending to be some muscle and runn...

There are more tears shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones.

I don't know what to say exactly.I always get myself way too involved in the story of a good movie (and likewise, ignore possible good parts in a movie that has lost me).I just got back from seeing Ca...

Being There.

I realize that this may come as a shock to some, but I watched another movie this evening. Being There was one of the last films Peter Sellers ever made, and it is a movie of understated power and ge...

Lord of War

I just got finished watching the above movie with a plate of mac and cheese with cheddar brats. The meal doesn't matter, but the film does. With each successive viewing of a new film with Nicolas Ca...

Bob Dylan's 487th Moustache.

So after 40+ years of being one of the most respected musicians/songwriters on the face of the planet, Bob Dylan can basically do whatever the h-e-double-hockeysticks he wants, right? Right? Thi...

Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Well, the title says it all. I got tired of it. I guess I have a problem with instant gratification. So now I am clean-shaven. And really stinking hot. But I shall enjoy this heat! G...

Beard?

That's right. My first post in quite some time is titled "Beard?" After a long, hard battle, I decided to start growing a beard in the middle of the summer. Worst. Decision. Ever. Don't g...

The unbearable lightness of being

So should I actually be happy I get to sleep in a whole extra half an hour tomorrow? This is the reality I'm faced with. Granted, I got myself 11 hours of sleep on Saturday, but somehow, the prospec...
