My Interests

Music, music, music ... did I forget anything? Oh music. Photography and craft (especially scrapbooking with all the photos I take), not necessarily in that order. Thought I'd share some photos I've taken of Tim Finn (and Frenz) here, not necessarily my best ones - I'm a bit precious about my photos and these are only the digitals, not always from the best location (but enough excuses). I also love writing of all kinds, from chatting with friends to academic stuff. Even dabble in a bit of fic ... sometimes a little too fic because my mind goes wandering in the pool. Oh yes, did I mention swimming? LOVE the water!

I'd like to meet:

I've "met" most of the famous people I'd like to, even had the occasional one flirt with me. However I'd love to have a real conversation with Tim Finn and Eddie Rayner; Bono too.

Music:

Where do I start?! The obvious I suppose: Split Enz, Tim Finn, U2, Eurythmics, Midnight Oil, Crowded House, The Finn Brothers, The Makers, Schnell Fenster, The Cruel Sea, Tex Perkins (and Tex, Don and Charlie), Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Andy White, Phil Judd, Neil Finn, David Bowie, Icehouse and just about anything 80s! Forgot for a long time to include Greek music ... OK, there's probably a reason for that but that's history and, best of all, I can actually understand it unlike some. The list could grow very long if I were to name everyone whose music I enjoy, but those who immediately come to mind are Yiannis Kotsiras, Despina Vandi, Anna Vissi and Yiannis Parios ... to name but a few!

Movies:

My mother still thinks I don't like films. I do, very much so, when I actually watch them. I love going to the Greek Film Festival when I can avoid the bureaucracy. The black and pragmatic nature of most Greek film and literature really resonates with me, especially the way it is often laced with humour. You might even see me as a volunteer at the Sydney one, just so I can get in free.

Television:

Whassat? Unless it's music related or the occasional dose of humour or sarcasm, you'll find me online or watching a DVD instead.

Books:

I own so many I've yet to read them all, and still I've barely scratched the surface! Perhaps unsurprisingly, I have read a lot of music biographies over the last few years, when I actually have a chance to read for pleasure.

Heroes:

I don't idolise people, they only let you down. I like quotes, so perhaps my heroes are people who say quotable things. Let me share a couple I like:When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn. ~ Harriet Beecher StoweReligion to me is almost like when God leaves - and people devise a set of rules to fill the space. ~ Bono

Local imagery

I've been appreciating the physical beauty of my surrounds more lately. It's not all negative, here's a photo I took of the sunset yesterday, technically the day before now. Not feeling as chatty as e...

Wake me up when September ... comes

And I can get back into a real pool again Is it too much to ask for a little bit of common sense/ettiquette in the pool?! Here I was in the medium lap lane closest to the (only) slow lane of what I du...

That restless feeling

I want to be on the road again, or somewhere different at any rate. Failing that, someone to settle down with. In my attempts to get this place in order I keep finding dutifully decorated pieces of pa...

The birds welcome me back...

... but am I glad to be here? Relieved not to have to be on the move again for some time (as far as I know) but otherwise, sadly a resounding NO! Good to see the birds and my parents again, but when m...

Cell phones and the ego

At the risk of offending my American friends again, what is it with this ego already?! Is there no scope for accommodating someone else's needs or feelings? I was rudely awoken by a screeching cell ph...

Thoughts during my final week in North America

I was thinking the other day as I had some form of mental flashback after going through some photos with a friend. So many of my friends, including some I'd never met before, have been so incredibly g...

ANZAC Day reflections

Well here I am, just over a week in the US and actually somewhat glad of it, given that I just missed my flight to Phoenix and was just checked into the next one, simple as. Not entirely sure if it wa...

Fixin' to ... procrastinate

There are a number of things that I *should* be doing right now, yet for the moment I feel compelled to write here as I watch a magnificent storm taking place over the town courthouse. It's been creep...
