About Me

Blessed with the talent of a 4 octave range Meghan knew from a young age that singing was what she was meant to do. “Basically music is everything to me.” Her first memory of music is being in a recording studio with her father, Stix Hooper, founder of the groundbreaking and award-winning jazz group, The Crusaders. Her rich, melodic and powerful voice was first recognized by her grade school teachers who recommended opera training which led to her being accepted at Los Altos High School’s Main Street Singers, a classical chorale group which traveled the world. Having the rare experience to perform in Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan was a defining experience for Meghan. Interacting with different cultures made her realize that while she loved her opera training it wasn’t where her passion lies. “Opera and Classical music will always be an important part of who I am as a musician but while overseas I truly understood the power music has to break language and cultural barriers. For me music is all about making you feel something, whether it's happiness, sadness, anger, rebellion, love, anything! I wanted to spread my emotions and voice outside of the classical box.”Studying communications and psychology at Northwestern University is when Meghan’s voice and heart truly came together. While in Chicago she continued to study classical voice at Northwestern’s School of Music, but she also studied with a vocal coach in the city to retrain her voice to branch out of the opera mold. Meghan’s goal was to find the balance between her classical training, jazz heritage, and contemporary music. “In the past few years I've been crafting my own sound. Where I think my voice and heart come together.”Meghan came full circle when she entered the recording studio with her father who produced her first demo, featuring the classic “Nature Boy” and the late Billy Preston’s “Will It Go Round In Circles”. Her ambition was to take the emotional pull of old music and infuse it with today’s sound. So enjoy and spread the word.Layout made by zuhms at CreateBlog.com .

Sounds Like: Hmmm..I really don't like that question...Originally I trained as a classical/opera singer but once I stopped to think about it I realized that's not where my passion lies. In the past few years I've been crafting my own sound. Where I think my voice and heart come together. For me music is all about making you feel something, whether it's happiness, sadness, anger, rebellion, love, anything!I try not to categorize myself into a specific genre or person I may sound like. These first two songs showcase the jazz side of me. My father's a jazz musician so that's been a huge influence on me. I chose these 2 songs as a showcase for my voice. They're not over produced, a bit old fashioned, done in one take. I just wanted to get back to basics. Enjoy! And tell your friends :)
