Francisco “Pirulo” Rosado was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1977. Since his early childhood he was surrounded by music. His father, Frank Rosado, was an exceptional flute player. His uncles sang and played various percussion instruments. At this time, some of his musical influences were Irakere, Dave Valentin, Los Van Van, George Benson, among others. At the early age of ten he applied and was selected to study in the only specialized school in Puerto Rico that combines a regular school program with music, Escuela Libre de Música in San Juan. Here, he studied oboe, bass and majored in percussion.While in school he started his professional career with Revolución Latina, a salsa orchestra. After graduating in 1995 he entered the local music environment playing many kinds of genres such as, Salsa, Rumba, Latin Jazz, Pop, and Jazz. He played with Giovanni Hidalgo, Anthony Carrillo, Pupi Santiago, Edgar Abraham, Julio Sabala, Yolandita Monge, Iris Chacon, Alfredo y Los Rumberos, among others.In 1998 he received a scholarship to study in Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he relocated in the year 2000. In Boston he was able to develop and expend his musical knowledge playing Funk, Jazz, World Music, R & B, Salsa, Calypso, and Latin Jazz. From there, Pirulo was given the opportunity to travel throughout the United States with recording band Entrain, the Either Orchestra, Jorge Arce and Humano, Suavecito, and the Ayala Family, among others. He was a founding member of group “Suavecito”, a fusion of Funk, Latin Jazz and Rumba, where a CD recording was independently produced, Music from the Heart. In 2003 he became a member of the Tufts University Big Band as “Special Guest Musician” and traveled to Cuba with them to play in the Jazz Café in La Havana.Additional recordings where he has participated are “Puerto Rico Jazz Jam”, “Gabriel Rodriguez”, “Relámpagos de la Plena”, “Entrain Live”, “Broken Arrow”, “Inca Son”, and soundtrack of movie “Heavy Metal 2000” with “Puya”.In 2003 Pirulo began a new phase in his musical career, composing and producing his own music. He started to record his music and relocated to Puerto Rico in August 2003 to complete two of his productions, “Este Soy Yo”, and “Ekue Jazz A Los Fallelcidos”.The first production is already completed and it is a fusion of different genres. It is combining Rap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Reggaeton and Poetry creating a fresh yet powerful impression of him and his present and future work.The second is a demonstrated fusion of elements of Jazz, Latin Jazz and Afro-Caribbean music, in addition to details from other styles and genres such as Drum and Base, Rap and R & B. It is an intent to create Urban Latin Jazz.In November 2006, Pirulo was asked to arrange a Hip Hop Medley of five Ricky Martin’s hit songs, for the Ricky Martin Person of the Year, produced by the Latin Grammy’s. Pirulo, Residente Calle 13, Hector el Father, Julio Voltio, la Sista, and Randy performed the arrangement.Pirulo’s latest accomplishments include, the production of six tracks for Latin Urban superstar Tego Calderón’s new album, “El Abayarde 2”, in which he composed, arranged and wrote on four of the tracks. Also, Pirulo is the drummer and vocalist for “Yeva”, a Latin Rock band from Puerto Rico that fuses heavy metal rock with salsa, bomba and Latin grooves. Yeva performed in Coachella 2007, and were named Best Newcomer by the Chicago Tribune.In February 2007 Pirulo was asked by White Lion Records to prepare a showcase of five-newcomer urban artists including himself. Since then he has become Musical Director for “Jowell y Randy’s” shows, in Bellas Artes and Coliseo de Puerto Rico.Piru also worked as Musical Director for Julio Voltio’s concert at the Oso Blanco Prison in Puerto Rico. This was the last and one of the few concerts ever at the Oso Blanco Prison that being closed to become a Museum. The concert was filmed and is scheduled to be release November 2007.Currently Pirulo is working on his solo urban album, “Guapeando”, which includes Latin Jazz, Salsa and Funk fusions among others, Future plans include Musical Direction for Tego’s “Abayarde 2” tour, and collaborations with Akon, Alejandro Sans, Draco, Calle 13, Julio Voltio, Vico C, Jowell y Randy, Arcangel, De La Ghetto, Mysta, Omar García among many others.At this time Pirulo is negotiating his Publishing and Record deals with White Lion Records, EMI Latin and WEA Latina. Expect to see a lot from this artist very soon.
