LOVE JONES

About Me

Once upon a time, five little boys decided to form a band. It was the mid-70s and there wasn't much else to do in the sleepy hamlet of Louisville, Ky. other than collecting cigarette butts and killing possum. So they built crude instruments with their bare hands, using whatever materials were available. An old tire here. A hank of human hair there. They practiced a lot, and you know what? They got to be pretty good. They started out playing local lemonade stands for tips. Twenty years later, they got a record deal.
That's Love Jones in a nutshell.
The band left Kentucky for Los Angeles shortly after the historic riots of 1992, brimming with self-confidence (and various distilled spirits). Following a typically ribald set opening for Tool, they were offered a recording contract with Zoo Entertainment.
Two gloriously eclectic pop/lounge concoctions followed. "Here's to the Losers" (1993) was the first release of a wave of lounge-style bands that the press dubbed the "Cocktail Nation." The album's unique melding of soulful pop hooks with Vegas attitude caught the attention of such national media outlets as Newsweek and "Late Night with Conan OBrien," and earned the band rave reviews. Their second album "Powerful Pain Relief" (1995)demonstrated their R&B influences with stylistic nods to Earth Wind and Fire, Al Green, and Chic.
In addition to their recording work and live performances, Love Jones appeared in the Miramax film "Since You've Been Gone" starring Teri Hatcher and the indie "French Exit" starring Jonathan Silverman. Their music can also be heard in the Miramax cult hit "Swingers" and on its accompanying soundtrack album.
They continue to perform whenever the mood strikes them.
