Rick Salas born and raised in the SF Bay Area, as a self-taught artist/educator. He has been painting for as long as he could remember. His breadth of work with acrylics are extensive mastering portraits, murals, airbrush, body art, calligraphy, mixed-media abstracts and sculpture. He loves to experiment with is work and try new things. His philosophy and approach to art is simple, an extraordinary instructor must first become an extraordinary student and continue to learn. He insists on keeping things new, fresh and always push the envelope. is well experienced in murals, portraits, body art and airbrush work. His work is very expressive in his use of color and capturing his subjects essence. He is a passionate artist and it is reflected in his work.
He has been painting and teaching professionally for over 15 years. He is, unofficially, the designer and lead artist of San Jose largest mural (100'x22') and co-designer of its second largest (80'x22'). Mr. Salas specializes in acrylics and has taught ages ranging from 4-44 in intermediate-advanced students. He is a huge advocate for art education especially among urban youth. He has a wide range of teaching experience ranging from youth in the juvenile system on trial for murder to youth in church groups.
Rick feels that it is just as important for urban youth to have quality art education as it is for those who are from privileged backgrounds. He has painted with master muralist and San Francisco native Susan Cervantes (www.precitaeyes.org). He as been recognized by city councilman Many Diaz and former Mayor of San Jose Susan Hammer for his work with urban youth in public art. He has been invited to several discussion panels and local conferences to inform the public and civil authorities on the topic of graffiti art awareness or graffiti as an art from vs. an act of crime or vandalism. Mr. Salas' long term goal is to operate one of the finest international art-mentoring programs serving urban youth.
