About Me

Greg is the host and organiser of the SUNDAY EVENING MUSIC SHOW, held monthly at EL ZAGUAN. The SHOW features some of the best underground and digging to the surface singer-songwriters in Madrid. The SHOW is designed to bring musical pleasure to your ears and showcase an ecclectic mix of performers in an intimate environment (with a bar that serves German beer and great tea infusions if you prefer). Up to now, SEMS has featured many great talents: Jules the Late Developer, Mississippi Bryan, Fajardo, Aroah, Mike Ballan, Igloo / Boat Beam, Spencer McLean, Anni B Sweet, NeiZ, Mat Van Kriedt, Motociklor, Before the Blue, Cold Feet, Marcus Doo & his friends, ADWIP, Crixtina Copado, Hector and Julie, David Lind, Rocio (Go Spiral) Leon, Amanda Galvez, Eddie Monzo & Heidi Buff, Starry & Marrone, Russ Parton, Alan Doyle.
    ...
Greg also hosts and organises NO MIC MADRID at NANAI - a guts no glory musical evening once every month or two featuring several talented acoustic musicians who aren't afraid to bare it all! As Bruce Springsteen says, 'There’s something about those instruments… Something about those things, those true folk instruments The ones that didn’t have to be plugged in. That meant they were meant for travel They were meant to be transient and to move with people And in and out of people’s lives They were meant to be played in homes and bars… Those are the instruments…they still come to life in that setting.’
    ...
Greg used to co-host OPEN MIC MADRID in 2007 along with it's founder, Jules the Late Developer, godfather of acoustificationmanicalization. This show is currently our of operation.
    ...
Greg's looking to make music for film soundtracks.
    ...
Greg has done some collaborations in Madrid, both live and recorded, with 'Mississippi' B, Trisha G, Cold Feet, Jules the Late Developer, Chica Niporesas, Rocio 'Go Spiral' Leon, Nacho Marrone, Marcus Doo, Ana from Tete a Tete, and more. Greg was featured on Radio Utopia's El Hombre que esta enamoro en la luna radio show on December 4th, 2007. He's also a member of Barcelona's Gracia Arts Project.
    ...
Greg is from Cleveland, Ohio... then he spent 4 years in Nashville, TN... then he spent 7 years in Prague... Now he's been in Madrid for about 5 years...
Greg's voice is raw and his guitar is muddy.Greg plays his homebrewed 'pounktry folck' that's in your face and maybe, at times, hard on your ears, but always prompting a smirk or a smile and a touch of sensitivity.Quiet, loud, especially raw, flexibo-wooden shows display Gobel's original songs covering a wide range of themes: gnomes that you can shoot, jobs that don't pay well, self-immolation protesters, the yellow media, short fridges without much space, peacefully chilly walks, fuzzed-up carpets, insomnia, the never-ending tasks of cleaning, crap politicians who stay too long, devil-sung folk songs, people who don't know how to walk in a subway, etc.

Sounds Like: Here's Greg playing his 'Hey, Mr. Beer Drinking Man' at Tesauro.Someone at one of my shows wrote this questionable description on 16 October 2003: Great guitar work and high production quality compliment Gobel's voice, which is reminiscent of classic Cash with shades of Waits and early Springstein on the latest album. Live shows display his versatility not to mention his stamina in delivering song after song with a high degree of energy and enthusiasm. And, another said this on 2 Feb 2004: I do remember years ago at a Crosby, Stills and Nash concert David Crosby prefacing an acoustic song by saying, 'This is wooden music, or quiet music that needs quiet.' And another said this on 28 June 2004: Great to hear music that has feeling and humor but isn't over-produced. And now it's John Fogerty!!"; I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!
