Co-ordinating a crew of over twenty members, promoting Reading’s longest running hip hop and breakbeat night Beat Feast - now in it’s 8th year, and producing enough music to warrant 3 myspace pages has got to be time consuming… Ben Phaze does all this while keeping the capital in a functioning state in his role as an engineer on the London Underground.
Since founding the Beat Feast Collective in 2001 Ben has gathered a team of promoters, DJs, VJs and artists and above all great friends all sharing the same desire to provide quality entertainment and create good vibes!
Over the last 10 years of playing in clubs, bars, festivals, warehouses and fields all over the UK and a few in Australia, Ben has supported many well respected artists including LTJ Bukem, Peshay, Rogue Element, Killa Kela and Skinnyman. His sets are known to be eclectic and unpredictable but can always be trusted to rock a crowd, earning him the title "Turntable Renegade" from the McMash Clan - the creators of the insane rave Braindrop. In the words of DJ Disowned, founder of Braindamage Radio "The turntablist skills of this DJ stand out a mile and will leave you smiling whilst at the same time thinking. " how the f*** did he manage that?"
Ben’s production is now a major focus with projects such as “Bring Your Ownâ€, where you the listener send in your own sounds and he forges them into a weekly creation. But it’s Ben’s job on the tubes that has enabled his latest project to happen – he has been making full use of his 24 hour access to gather samples and is creating his own soundtrack to “behind the scenesâ€. Tunnels music is a genre which you may not have heard of yet because he made it up – check out www.myspace.com/tunnels
