About Me

The Indigenous Music Project (IMP) is a Non-Profit initiative operating on a global level to preserve and strengthen the musical traditions of Indigenous Peoples Groups. The following information is intended to give the reader a brief outline of the motivations and aspirations of this project.=====Definitions ===The determination of which cultures are an Indigenous Peoples Group (IPG) for the purposes of this project will be based on recognition as such by International Governmental Organisations. At present, the United Nations recognizes over 600 Separate IPG, however these can be roughly grouped into larger sub groups based on ethno-linguistic and genetic similarities. This project will the focus primarily on the music and related Dance and Art traditions of each recognized (IPG) tradition and their inherent Cultural, Linguistic and Spiritual importance. Music focused on by this project will be traditional music with a style particular or unique to an (IPG) and will have emerged relatively independently in that culture. The mission of this project is to recognise and protect diversity in Musical and expression and Musical culture among the many Indigenous Peoples’Groups.
