All epic journeys have a beginning where a history is established. These important happenings, (call it fate or luck) pave the future roads for those who are destined to walk it…-This is our story-It all began back in September of 2004, with the founding and original members, Josh Ingram (Drums), who was 11 years of age and David Hutchinson (Guitar), who was 13 years of age. After school, one fine fall day, David discovered that Josh played the drums, and insisted that they should jam sometime. Josh had already been playing for 4 years, but Dave had just picked up the guitar 2 weeks earlier of this fateful day. Not expecting too much, they started to have fun jams that consisted of many of the same chord progressions, and whatever covers David was learning at the time. A week later, David brought a friend, by the name of Nick Carter, who had just started playing bass, to a jam and he became bass/lead singer. This was the starting line up of Silence The Villain; a trio of young rockers. They began by learning many covers by such bands as; Nirvana, Greenday, Silverstein, Funeral For a Friend, Rise Against, Death From Above 1979, and Billy Talent. As they continued to become better as musicians, they were soon ready to play small gigs. Silence The Villain played their first real show (because Talent Shows don’t count) at a birthday party in April of 2005. They had 10 cover songs in total and it was an unforgettable experience. This new hunger for playing shows was now in their blood but they knew that they could not keep playing cover songs forever. They began writing their own material, with Nick as lead vocals, and Josh with backing vocals (well not really, because screaming doesn’t count) and came up with some interesting first creations. Silence The Villain has always written songs that not only, tested their musicianship by pushing the boundaries of their skill level every time, but songs that were very interesting musically. Of course, some things aren’t meant to last forever and for Silence The Villain, it seemed like the end. After only a year and 9 months as a trio, Nick had randomly left the band with no notice or reasoning for his departure. David and Josh were left feeling hopeless because they were now out of a singer and a bass player. This seemed like the end of their journey; but I guess fate had other plans for them.Silence The Villain began the recruiting process searching for a bass player, an extra guitarist and a singer. The month of August of 2006 seemed to be one of the best months ever for STV, as they found what they were looking for. With the recruitment of these two new members, they would help catapult Silence The Villain to new heights of musicianship. The first person to try out was a friend of David’s by the name of Tyler Brayton. He came to try out for the guitar position, but did not make the cut. The reason was because David also knew of another friend by the name of Marc Roy who also played guitar. When Marc came to a practice, his skills as a guitarist clearly showed and he instantly clicked with Josh and David. What Tyler was asked to do next, would be conceived by many as a daunting task, but Tyler was more than ready to take on the challenge. We had asked him to learn the bass guitar and join the band because we still needed a bass player. Josh and David could sense the drive and determination and most importantly the intense passion that Tyler had for music, so it seemed stupid to not have him in the band. He fearlessly learned how to play an entirely different instrument and has become a very talented musician as the years have progressed. Marc and Tyler, through the month of August, began to learn Silence The Villain’s first 3 original songs by practicing with Josh everyday (as David was on a trip in Australia). By the time that Dave got back, it was clear that Marc and Tyler were the best possible people for the band. Their skill level had over exceeded the first era of Silence The Villain song’s and it was clear that new material was needed. Now Silence The Villain was at the level of musicianship where they could write the songs that they had always wanted to write; music that they enjoyed and loved to listen to. They began writing new material that was not only surprisingly technical for their age, but also pushed their playing abilities even further. From this point, the classic Silence The Villain sound was established. Whether it was David’s crazy bluesy style, which can be heard in many riffs or Marc’s knack for sweeping and writing cool leads; something special was in the making. With 9 original songs with the new and improved STV they were ready to begin the long and grueling search for a vocalist.Silence The Villain now began playing more shows and began building a name for themselves around the area. Even without a singer in the band, it seemed like many people were interested in the musical aspect of this instrumental band. However, that wasn’t the mind set for Silence The Villain, (to be an instrumental band forever), for they desperately wanted for a singer. The only problem was that there didn’t seem to be much talented vocalists around. Then a year later, they found a guy by the name of Nick Pasowisty, who would finally complete the band’s lineup and secure the Pentagon. Coming from another great local band by the name of Three For Silence, (that parted ways when the time for secondary education came) he sent in one of his recordings of his vocal attempt at one of our instrumentals (The Fight Song) and really got the band interested. It was by far the best that they had heard and right away Silence the Villain began asking Nick to join them in practices. This took place in August of 2007 and for the next 4 months; Nick would face some really intense practices. Coming from being a guitarist/vocalist he now had to get used to owning the mic without an instrument. They began working on putting vocals to every song and by late December (which probably felt like a lifetime for Nick) he was asked to officially join the band. But in classic STV fashion there had to be something that went wrong, and after 7 months with a new singer, Silence the Villain experienced some deja vu and was once again left without a notice of department, and without a singer. The search continues..........
