The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason

About Me

I am the drummer for the greatest band in the world: Brass Biggins. Have you got Brass Biggins? I know I do. Also, I am in the third year of the Economics Ph.D program at the University of Alabama. Soon you will all have to address me as Dr. Stefan. That's going to be so cool. Hopefully when I have completed the program I will be able to find a position at a decent institute of higher learning; preferably somewhere away from Alabama. And if not I can always fall back on my music and hope we can break it big with the non-mainstream crowd; that is, we should appeal greatly to the Hippies. That is all I am going to put here now because most of you reading this should know me already and if you have to ask, you don't need to know.

You Belong in Amsterdam
A little old fashioned, a little modern - you're the best of both worlds. And so is Amsterdam.
Whether you want to be a squatter graffiti artist or a great novelist, Amsterdam has all that you want in Europe (in one small city). What European City Do You Belong In?

Music:

Maiming the Defenseless [This is a song that me and three other friends played at the last Blount program Open Mic Night toward the end of the spring semester of 2001. We played two other songs that night (Equinox, God Bless the Child) but only this song that we made up survives. The Players: Joey Brigman: Saxaphone number 1 (he is the one soloing through most of the song), Tony: Saxaphone number 2 (he provides a little background harmony), Jon Ezell: Bass (he went nuts in his solo, he started hitting the bass strings with a drum stick), Stefan: Drums (I cracked one of my drum sticks during my drum solo. After the song was over I stood up, grabbed my stick where it cracked, ripped it in two and threw it on the ground in front of the set.).]
Other Music I like: I listen to a lot of Jazz. I like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie. I also like jam bands or bands that just play their instruments really well (I prefer real instruments and no electronic, digital crap). I listen to Phish, Umphrey's McGee, Keller Williams, Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Jack Johnson, John Butler Trio, Soulive, The Motet, Robert Randolph, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Pink Floyd, Shade Tree. But I also like other artists. I am a big fan of Tool. I also listen to Incubus, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and my friend Cliff at Cheap Shots on a Friday night. And BRASS BIGGINS!!

Movies:

I have wasted so much time sitting around watching movies. I have my own growing collection (140 and counting) but am always looking for another good movie to add to the list I keep. I keep a list because all of my DVDs were stolen once and it was hard to remember all the titles I owned. I did remember and my insurance replaced them for me. Now here are a few of my all-time favorite movies (in no meaningful order):
Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks 2 (I am a Kevin Smith fan as you could tell)
Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Lock,Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels; Snatch, Memento, Requien for a Dream; I also like Pi which is an earlier Darren Aronofsky film. The Godfather part 1 and 2, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface, Goodfellas, Seven; Fight Club. Big fan of the James Bond films although I am not too sure about the new Bond so I will reserve judgement on him (Timothy Dalton sucked). Lola Rennt (wierd and messed up German movie; watch it if you have not seen it.
I need to give some props to the films I like that make me seem like a geek. Star Wars Series, Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I first read the books when I was eight years old), Star Trek movies.
Willow, Back to the Future, All the Monty Python Films, Mel Brooks: The Producers (1968), Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs. Dr. Strangelove, The Pink Panther (1963), Casino Royale (Peter Sellers was a comic genius). Old School, Airplane, Animal House, The Big Lebowski, Bull Durham, Super Troopers, Beerfest,Boondock Saints, Full Metal Jacket, Sin City, Crash, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Warriors.
And there are plenty more movies that I have seen that I like but just don't need to list here since this list is quite long enough.

Television:

I watch television, but I actually only watch a few recurring shows; mostly i watch movies on cable. My favorite shows are Family Guy, Scrubs, Sportscenter, Around the Horn, Pardon the Interruption, Entourage, Weeds, That 70's Show, ST:TNG, ST:DS9, and ST:Voyager on Spike. I also still enjoy watching older Simpsons and South Park episodes. I like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

Books:

Books! You don't even want to get me started on my favorite books. I have my own private library and have read so many books that I don't even know how many I have read. Instead of listing my favorite books, I will list some of my favorite authors so you can check them out for yourself.
Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time Series, the height of epic fantasy) Terry Brooks (The Shannara series, Magic Kingdom of Landover) Terry Goodkind (The Sword of Truth Series) George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire series) Terry Pratchett (Discworld books, freakin' hilarious) David Eddings (The Belgariad and The Mallorean; The Elenium and The Tamuli series). Frank Herbert (Dune series) Robert Heinlein (Stranger in a Strange Land, need I say more?) Stephen King (I have enjoyed most all his books) Hunter S. Thompson (my sister is a real big fan of his) Kurt Vonegut (just read his works) Tennessee Williams (excellent stage plays) Oscar Wilde (his wit and humor make me laugh) Charles Dickens (just always liked his works) Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange) Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Choke, Invisible Monsters, Haunted) Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho, Less than Zero)
After that there are a lot of other works and authors that I enjoy, especially 19th century British literature and early 20th century British and American literature, but there are just too many to list them all.
