Downside evolved late in 2003 after a few lineup changes. The current members include: Mike Sciullo(vocals), Adam Heusey(bass), J. P. Callender(guitar), and Dean(drums). Downside's music falls into the category of mainstream rock. Their original collection emphasizes the combination of their unique writing style and melodies, making their set list distinctive and evocative.The band credits its sound to a vast array of influences. Mike, a former member of the Plum High School concert choir, developed his voice through his passion for R&B and soulful rock music. Adam met the guys from Downside when Mike answered his ad in a local music store. Adam is a musical jack-of-all-trades, which all started at the age of 8, when he started learning to play the piano. He then went on to learn the guitar, drums, and of course bass. JP, actually the founder of Downside, began playing guitar as a child; he was also a member of a popular rock band while living in San Antonio, TX. JP was heavily influenced by music that consisted of power and energy. Dean joined Downside after a successful run with Pittsburgh's Camp Element. He had the opportunity to tour with some of the country's most popular bands as well as Kid Rock, RUN DMC, Coal Chamber, Orange 9mm, Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Papa Roach, to name a few. His musical career started taking off at the age of 21 when he began playing with Pittsburgh's Chronic Groove. Dean has been influenced by many different styles of music from hip-hop, rock, metal and everything else in between. Together the guys from Downside create music that is highly emotional, marketable, and very memorable. Downside appeals to audiences of varied ages. The band attributes their diversity into achieving a successful crossover of the enerational boundaries in music today. In January, Downside, premiered on The Edge of the X, WXDX-105.9. Downside will continue to ride their fast paced emergence into the Pittsburgh music scene with an expected exposure to neighboring cities.
