Kinky Wool is a collection of guys that hang out together occasionally to have fun making music. From the beginning they’ve rehearsed and recorded their own songs, mostly written by Koen Van Lookce and Arno Lambreghts.
“Our songs are usually written by one of us at home on
a guitar and brought to the group to add whatever it
needs. The subject and style of the songs is different
every time. We don't care if we play a simple pop
song, punkrock, or intimate singer-songwriter stuff.
We feel free to play with it all!â€
Kinky Wool got together for the first time in the summer of 2001. Koen had been playing together with the young and talented Wouter Saverwijns for a while. He asked Ludo Leemans to get his bass out again after 28 years and knew Arno had just moved to Ghent with a drumset.
Since then, they’ve rehearsed on and off, performed here and there and recorded some tracks with the great support of Emanuel. He invited them to come play at the Bijloke Hogeschool to record a track for his end work/album for school, because he studied music production there. He's become a full member of the band ever since.
During that time they recorded 'Reunion', 'Stranger
Seeks', 'Guruji' (also the video clip) and 'Wouter's
song'. Kinky Wool has performed twice on the annual Gentse Feesten in their hometown. They’ve also worked together with Meghan Andrews, a most amazing singer-songwriter from New York, to record 'Reunion' and 'Don't let this love fade!'
A year ago Kinky Wool started rehearsals again. They recruited another singer: Federico Ferrara from Milan. Ludo passed on the bass to Emanuel and resigned from playing music with the guys.
“At the moment not much is happening, due to busy
schedules and different priorities. But the vibe is
growing bigger to start rehearsals and get together
again this summer. It's just too much fun hanging out
together making music of our own!â€
