Irate Primates

About Me

The Irate Primates are a product of their culture and environment. As musicians and artists, they are influenced by the things they have been exposed to. From eighty’s and nineties-era rock and hip-hop to the reggae-funk vibes of today, they are sponges of stimulation and creativity. Rooted in hip hop and spoken-word poetry and always utilizing clever word play and rhymes, the Irate Primates go beyond one sound. Combinations of blues guitar, break beats, funky bass lines and singing elements are the result of one dynamic and original band. Coming out of the seldom represented Upstate New York area, these two emcees and their assembly of guest instrumentalists attempt to define their struggle. Born out of the post-industrial ghost-towns of the U.S, the abandoned factories were their home. The empty streets played host to vivid imaginations and a unique battle ensued to get up, get out and get somethin’. Their blending of electronic and live samples as well as the blues and rap elements make this a group worth examining. In an age where musical boundaries and cultural barriers are being torn down, these musicians are representative of a new movement where music is music and genres as well as labels are not as important as relaying a message to the people.
