The Kiss That Took A Trip

About Me

BIOGRAPHY

Formed around April's Fools Day (my fate is doomed) after years of struggling to find its way to start, THE KISS THAT TOOK A TRIP is a highly amateurish one-man project which builds 90% of its darkly luminous music via PC, at the risk of being justly despised by actual bands. Sorry in advance. I can't play anything, so shame on me. I would love to trash guitars onstage, but that's a scenery that will never come true. In my defense I have to say that I don't use loops or previously arranged music: I write every note/chord you hear. I'm not interested in using someone else's ideas, but mine, both musical and personal. This project is heavy on political overtones too.

Despite of what you've read, this MySpace site does not pretend to be serious at all. The purpose of this page is to spread my work (or whatever you want to call it) to experience the almost masochistic feeling of artistic exposure, no matter how mediocre my output may be. This music won't change your world, because it's just meant to build mine. To put it shortly: this is a hobby that's gone too far.

Also, I'd like to encourage anyone holding anything creative inside to let it out loud, because in these times of predatory multinational companies and disguised slavery, people are eager to live life. Well, I think this is the way.

Long live Internet opportunities. The tunes are on their way.

- TKTTAT, April 2006

MUSICAL FATHER FIGURES

Although passion for music has been there all along, some artists have boosted it to new heights. As a side note to this Bio section, I feel obliged to name the all-time favourite musicians of mine:
The Smashing Pumpkins (+every side project you can name)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (+almost every related band you can think of)
Mogwai
The Gathering
Nine Inch Nails
U2
Live
Megadeth
Glenn Branca
Angelo Badalamenti
I could name dozens more, but these are the real deal. To find endless lists of influences by look-how-eclectic-we-are/poseur bands, visit any other MySpace site, not this.

Do yourself a favour and chek out those new for you.

Henryk Górecki
Richard Marx
Bark Psychosis
Stars Of The Lid
Jimmy Chamberlin Complex
Talk Talk

Ultravox
Vaselines
William Basinski
and... The Shaggs.

Strangely, many of my very favourite bands haven't influenced my music at all, and unfortunately, they can't be listed above. You can look for them in the Bio section.

"What was inspirational about punk was that it proved you didn't need a hall pass into the world of serious culture. You could do anything you wanted in your basement and garage and it was as valid as anything that anybody else was doing. This 'Do It Yourself' ideology is so intuitively right that you have to be amazed that it took so long to take hold in broad cultural terms. Today we are seeing a dissolution of that ideology and an abdication of power into the hands of the mainstream, and that is the pity of the whole thing, not that some band is now popular that isn't stylistically worth it."
(Steve Albini, 1996)

Sounds Like:

Wishful thinking: Nothing else.
Real world: Lame PC music with some personality. I like to call it distorted post-pop.
Classic MySpace metaphors: A masked man stabbing Tom Cruise to death. Toddlers stomping on moogs. God killing time. Thinking anticlockwise about chocolate. To sum it up: it's the kind of music that annoying self-photographing chics in underwear would never listen to.
