About Me

*PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS A FAN SITE AND NOT THE REAL ALAN LANCASTER* I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer! Born Feb 7, 1949 in Peckham, South London. I began the embryonic 'Status Quo' back in 1961 when I invited my school friend Francis Rossi to join me in forming a band. We recruited a drummer, John Coghlan and played our first public performance in May 1962 at my father's sports club in Dulwich, South East London. On leaving school in 1965, we invited keyboard player Roy Lines to join us. Also in 1965 while performing at 'Butlins Holiday Camp', Minehead, I struck up a friendship with guitarist Rick Parfitt, who later joined the band in 1967. At that time we were recording our fourth single 'Picture Of Matchstickmen', which became our first 'hit' record. it was a few years later when Roy Lines left the band that I persuaded Rossi, Parfitt and Coghlan to concentrate on 'Rock Boogie' music. This of course became our forte which catapulted us into the big league. The band leapt from strength to strength but in 1982 as we were approaching our peak John Coghlan left the band. Two years later in 1984 the band embarked on our final concert tour. The final performance was the opening of the 'Live Aid' concert at Wembley Stadium in July 1985. I returned to my home in Australia to start work on a new double album for the band. Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt commenced work on solo albums. In 1986 after making no headway with their solo projects, Rossi and Parfitt decided to join forces again and form a new band. They later negotiated with me for the right to call the new band Status Quo. It was in 1987 that I eventually resigned, allowing Rossi and Parfitt to continue using the name with a new line up. My work on the new album was diverted to an Australian band called 'The Party Boys', in which I performed and recorded a series of 'hit' records, reaching the number 1 spot and achieving platinum sales. In 1988 I formed 'The Bombers' which included Status Quo's original drummer, John Coghlan. By the following year, we had signed a major American recording deal and started recording the 'Aim High' album with 'The Bombers', which won the approval of the most demanding rock critics. I also have an impressive collection of trophy's awarded to me for having a prize moustache...
