Mezza Sound Sytem

From the backrooms of dodgy Kent boozers to playing dance tents at festivals it certainly can't be said that the Mezzas haven't done the rounds. Canterbury boys Tom & John Mezza AKA Mezza Sound System started playing together in College as party DJs, mashing up old skool breaks, house and big beat at house parties and local bars.
5 years on Mezza Sound Systemare fast gaining a reputation for being at the forefront of the breaks scene with a whole host of recognised nights under their belt. These range from their own "MSB" events in Old Street, London through which they pushed their original blend of funky to harder edged breaks to the East London scene. Appearances at Chibuku Shake Shake alongisde the likes of rising Mixmag future heroes Wandy &The Beat Monkeys. Also spinning with breaks stars DJ Quest & Odissi at the Ocean Rooms Brighton & being covered in Mofo magazine. supporting Nicky Blackmarket at Studio 41, Canterbury. More recently they’ve been causing waves up the country playing alongside DJ Mag's hotly tipped stars of 2005, Crackerz & Jam at their Fat Factory parties just outside of Norwich and joining Tom Wilkes & Bizkit for their Stuff parties in Norwich.
In 2006 the boys caused a stir when they started Canterbury's first dedicated breaks night Basslick, which has now been relocated to the Loft Nightclub in Maidstone. Through which they've played with some of the leading names in breaks today including Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, Eddy Temple Morris, The Breakfastaz, General Midi, JDS, DJ Hyper, Janette Slack & Tom Real to name a few.
Along with which they've pushed breaks at a a range of different festivals including Urban Extreme, Lounge on the Farm & Canterbury’s boutique fest Electric Gardens in the FAT! tent appearing with Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors, Freq Nasty, and in the Clubclass tent alongside Nic Fanciulli, Meat Katie, & A Skills. They’ve also appeared at the Breakbeat weekender in Great Yarmouth where they played alongside Soul of Man, Rennie Pilgrim, Drummattic Twins & Nick Thayer to name a few.
More recently the boys have appeared on Florida breaks station Bijou Breaks & Crackerz & Jam’s Future radio show. With their recent remixes & own productions gaining them respect from their industry peers such as Atomic Hooligan, Jimmy Mofo & Groove Allegiance & following a hectic 2007 which has included multiple Basslick parties, Lucky Break in Germany, Ministry of Sound, & a new residency at Canterbury Club night Electrosexual, 2008 looks bright for the Mezza boys.
