About Me

UMPHREY JACKSON has been a longtime resident of S. FL, that is when he wasn't performing at a venue somewhere around the world. He is man with an innate talent to transform any significant moment into a song, and began songwriting during his teenage years at Nrnberg American High School in Nrnberg, Germany. Little did the teenaged Umphrey know that one day he would write several songs based on the memories made at NHS. On Ump's CD, DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO WILL REMEMBER, all the songs, with the exception of one, were inspired by his high school years. The multi-talented UMPHREY JACKSON is a composer, producer, musician and singer, but before all those exciting occupations were attached to his name, he learned the music trade as a hard working roadie. In the early 80s, after college at the University of Alabama, Umphrey knew his passion for music would lead him to his profession for life. From 1981 until 1992, Ump worked for Lee Greenwood, Vince Gill, Cher, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Night Ranger, The Judds, The Commodores, The Ohio Players, just to name a few. However, before he decided to go solo, he and a friend started a group they called Genie and The Beast. Their group played the college clubs and the underground circuit, but their biggest claim to fame was sharing the stage with The B-52's and Boy George at the New Year's Eve South Beach Bash in 1999.Umphrey's song, HOME OF THE BRAVE, was slated to be part of the soundtrack for THE THREE KINGS movie filmed in the mid-90s. However, the song was cut from the final score. So, Ump included it on his first CD. HOME OF THE BRAVE has been especially well received since Ump and his group, THE UMPHREY JACKSON PROJECT, performed for the troops in the Persian Gulf in early 2003. His soulfully touching song, SPIRIT, is a comfort in trying times, and has been requested by many of the fallen hero's families.Home of the Brave will open in Jan. 2007. Listen to Home of the Brave the song that inspiried the movie Home of the Brave starring Samuel L Jackson and Curtis(50cent)Jackson.. -- CDBABY LINK for GENIE & THE BEAST: State of the Union --
