EXCOMMUNION
----The band that would later be known as Excommunion was formed in the summer of '98. Then only a three piece, the line up consisted of Josh Tavrow (guitar), Kyle Spanswick (guitar), and Dustin Selveen (drums). Through the following year these three composed and compiled, moving from practice space to practice space and borrowing whatever equipment they could get their hands on. They would soon adorn the title of "Excommunion" in place of their first band name "Goatdeamon". Excommunion was originally intended to be their mutual friend's black metal project, but it never actually came to be and the name was offered forth. The word itself, is derived from the word excommunication, a practice largely performed in the dark ages of christianity. When one was exiled from the house of god and seen as unfit under the eyes of the lord he was excommunicated from the holy church thus banished from all society and damned to lie in the pits of hell upon entering the afterlife.----Excommunion's disdain for Christ and utter loathing for his followers set the basis of the band. The first musical incarnations reflected their hate with songs of warfare, persecution, torture and enslavement of the lambs of Christ. The band didn't just limit the lyrical content to matters of the lord, but through stories and tales created a universe of grand proportions in which demon manifest roam darkened woods, black sorcerers traverse the plains of time and existence upon the backs of foul winged creatures, ancient serpents awaken from great slumbers rising from cold tombs in the depths of the sea, and the streams of creation are sailed through out the furthest depths of the universe.
----In the spring of '99 Excommunion entered the studio and created their first official demo "The Rites Of The Excommunion". This featured all the early works kept by the band and remains as a monument to their birth into the underground. Unfortunately the demo was never officially released and it's circulation as a bootleg was far from wide spread. The band continued forth composing greater works, becoming faster and more precise. In the summer of 2000 Excommunion gained their fourth and final member ChristButcher (bass) and was now enabled to unleash their force live.
----Excommunion entered the studio once again in preparation for the forthcoming full length debut "Superion". The band was contacted by Empire Records after the recording and were signed to a single album deal, which was released in 2001 in Europe, and later licensed through WW3 Music in 2003 for the U.S.
----The band decided to call it quits in 2004 after much hardship and lack of focus. All the members of Excommunion are currently in other metal projects throughout the Rocky Mountain region...
