Syd Barrett R.I.P SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony, so where do I begin....Well it all started in the desert heat on a summer's day. 1973 Tehran, born to an international partnership, my mother English, my father Persian (Proud to be an Anglo Middle-Eastern). Was forced to leave Iran over night in 1979 due to a potent combination of religious zeal & the Shah's ultimate failure to rule a country, prime ingredients for a revolution. Losing everything we fled to London, whereupon my parents calculated our next move. Like the pilgrims of old fighting persecution, we too traveled to the new world. A 6-month stint in Santa Monica, & a short stay in Vancouver, soon to find home in the beautiful mountains of Incline Villiage, Lake Tahoe. Possibly the best place I've ever lived, however after 4 years, truths awoke, & partnerships shattered. My mother took heed of her feelings & made the step to leave my dad. Taking me in hand, I find myself back in the old world, attending all boys prep/private schools, & acquiring a taste for marmite, tikka, & all things English. Seven great long years in London town & again I found myself succumb to another sliding door. Summer of 89', a trip to visit my father, he asks whether or not I would like to stay & live out the rest of my school days in the land of surf & sun, Hermosa Beach. Of course I said yes, although my mother was devastated upon the news of my choice not to return to England. Three years spent in high school, & with right of passage sped southbound to pursue my higher learning in San Diego. Amazingly I managed to graduate in four years and behold a twist of fete. After graduating I chose to move back to London & recapture the European flair that I had so longed for. Three years & five jobs later, guess what, I find myself back in Hollywood. Another three year spread of establishing a new life at which point the feet began to itch & business opportunities led me to New England, grand old Bean Town. Enamored by this city, with its mixture of history, romance, long cold winters, & charming summer nights. However, this boy could only handle so much bone breaking bitter coldness, & the West began to whisper sweet nothings. Its been three years since I walked the cobblestones of Paul Revere's pub crawl & here again I stand alone, the capital of entertainment, the city of Lost Angels. Where I go next, the sublime only knows.
