About Me

Wesley is a singer/songwriter whose first performance was part of a talent contest held in Croydon’s Fairfield Halls at the age of 15. The band were also given the oppurtunity to record at the famous Abbey Road Studios. After completing Gcse’s he went on to study a Diploma in Music Technology at Chichester college, then went to study a degree in popular music at VocalTech, where he gained a good level of musicianship and ensemble arrangment. His musical style is soulful and jazzy with elements of hip-hop and funk due to the rhythm section which includes Craig Boorman (drums), Omar Russell (bass) and Lorenzo Marsolini (guitar). Currently working on his first solo E.P, he is also working under the Dune Music Company on a U.K and European tour for Jazz Jamaica as part of the ’Motor City Roots’ release. Wesley performs Harry Brown’s arrangment of Stevie Wonder’s ’I was made to love her’ and a duet on ’My cherie amour’ with the sweet vocals of Zara Mcfarlene. Wes has also done sessions with Big Life Music, Ghetto Soul and Shift&Jam Productions which includes MC Drummer/Producer exstroadinaire Craig Boorman a.k.a Mista Shifta and up and coming hip-hop producer Toejam. Influences: It seems to me that all of my earliest memories come with thier own soundtrack. Just the sound of Billie Holiday or Carole King's voice brings back sensations, the smell of Roast Chicken, the windows steamed up from the vegetables and the sound of my mum humming along to 'That Old Devil'. My aunt introduced me to Micheal Jackson and took me and my sister to see many shows but it was when she introduced me to Stevie Wonder that my personnal choice in music began to develop. So from there I explored, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and many more. I was also into heavier stuff like The Prodigy and Faithless, I can remember having the Jungle Mania CD and a Dreamscape Album featuring Carl Cox and DJ Hype I loved the hard beat and crazy sound. My Music teacher in school 'Mr Step' inspired me with the way he taught. He would come into the class with a wacky look on his face write stuff on the board and then engage in normal conversation's about life, but if you showed dis-respect, you knew about it. I remember being in trouble alot in school. I think I spent more time in detention than I did in class but I didn't mind. Mr Step used to leave the piano rooms open so I'd just play out my time, even if I didn't have detention. More recently my inspirations have included the great Donny Hathaway and the sheer musical delight's of D'angelo's Voodoo. That shits like my Bible! Anyway enough about that, not all my inspiration comes from music. Sound is but one factor that can grab you and send that chill up and down your spine. Seeing a young person give up thier seat to an older person inspires me. what about you?
