It’s time to introduce a group that is truly the future of the music industry. It’s Desafio! A dynamic duo composed of two young talented artists trying to make their mark on the music industry. Byron “Kid Flako†Martinez born in Nicaragua and Walter “Slim Stunna†Lorenzana born in Washington D.C. together form an unpredictable combination that is the future of the urban movement. Flako coming to this country when he was only two years old and Stunna being born to a mother from El Salvador and a father from Guatemala they both had to be prepared to face adversity and work towards a better life for themselves and their families.
Flako and Stunna are childhood friends that met each other in middle school. Stunna has been rapping since he was 12 years old. Always rapping and battling in school he was very much influenced by the hip hop and urban culture. Flako was also influenced by the hip hop culture but had a bigger influence by Latin music. When Flako heard about the genre of music called reggaeton it completely captured his attention and he could not get enough of it. Both of them always had an interest in music but never really considered becoming recording artists because they had other things on their mind such as sports and school. It was not until they reached their last years in high school that they decided to devote their time and energy into making a music career possible by starting to showcase their talent to the public.
Kid Flako’s musical influences include Baby Rasta y Gringo and Plan B, two of reggaeton’s pioneers and innovators. Slim Stunna’s musical influences include Eminem and Notorious B.I.G., two of hip hop’s greatest lyricists. Desafio’s different influences make them such a versatile duo and together they create a fusion of music that is unlike anything you have heard before. Their unique style is noticeable in each and every one of their songs which forms two very different styles combining to form a sound that is truly unlike anything in the music industry.
At the moment Desafio is focused on collaborating with other young artists and getting as much exposure as possible. Flako and Stunna both write their own lyrics and produce each of their songs and they hope to continue improving on their writing and producing skills. Flako and Stunna feel that they are against all odds when it comes to making a name for themselves in this industry but they are here to prove that with hard work and determination nothing is impossible.
Desafio’s ultimate goal is to get their music out to the world and become respected international recording artists. To become representatives for the whole Latino community and to one day be able to give back to their communities. Also to show the world what kind of talent the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia area has. With the determination and perseverance of this duo it is only a matter of time.[LOVEMYFLASH]
