Josh and Russell met at college in Hesston, KS in 1999.
Then they heard nothing from one another for 6 years.
Josh went his way and ended up in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
By happenstance, Russell ended up moving out there from Pennsylvania
in 2006 and the two made certain to cross paths.
Well, to make a long story short, Russell played Josh two or three songs he had written that were definitely bluegrass, but Russell didn't really know it. Josh was always a bluegrass boy and pointed it out to Russell and they began playing together, but not really taking things seriously. Jump to the summer of 2007; the boys decided to give this thing a shot and called it The Porter Draw. They had a bunch more songs at this point and caught the ear of a lanky gentleman by the name of Ben Wood. Ben played a good banjo and showed Josh and Russell a couple of songs he himself had written. The two others went slack-jawed. The three young men played a couple of shows together, but not necessarily as a band. Josh and Russell backed Ben up and vice versa, until one day they realized that they actually were a band, whether they meant it to happen or not. With Josh's brother, Andy, on the bass, they played several shows together and things started moving. More songs were written and learned and the boys fine-tuned their energetic brand of punk inspired roots music and began to catch the ear of some of the fine folks who inhabit the town of Albuquerque. Andy had to bow out early in the game, and after trying a couple bass players, the three asked Vince to join their circus in May of 2008. Mojo came on board in March of '09. The lineup was set, the shows kept coming, and Russell sweated waaaay too much on stage. Well, its been a year now since those first shows with Andy, and the band is still having fun, with a bright future to boot. Fellow musicians became close friends and that sure as hell shows when they put it all out on the the stage together.
we play music. we always have.
