STOCKCAR NAMED DESIREA lost Las Vegas weekend, a chance meeting, a reckless and ill-advised union… Stockcar Named Desire was born. And even a return home to Minneapolis and eventual sobriety did not prove enough to shake these misguided, beer-soaked convictions. When Travis Merchant met Ben Craig at 40,000 feet on a plane heading for Las Vegas, he had just finished playing with Tony Sims and the Killertones and was out to tear up sin city.Ben was working for Jam Productions, after coming off a 4 year roller coaster ride playing bass with Bone Club; including tours in Europe, Canada and the US, touring along with artists such as Green Day, Everclear and The Melvins. Boneclub was signed to Imago Records along with label mates Henry Rollins, Aimee Mann and Pere Ubu.Stockcar Named Desire came screaming out of the gates on to the Minneapolis music scene from the get go. Having performed everywhere from the legendary First Avenue Main Room, infamous Lee’s Liquor Lounge, the monstrous stage headlining the Target Center, and all points in between, an album, Low to the Ground, was born. Having received the Minnesota Music Academy Award in 2005, Stockcar has gone into top gear leaving a wake of broken hearts and empty bottles.Currently performing with Scott “Frenchy†Fremont on drums, the band’s original drummer James Olson is a dedicated fireman who’s always available to hit it hard. Andrew “Cadillac†Kolstad, who also appears on the CD Low to the Ground, is another player who has made his mark. Five time Minnesota Music Award winner Steve Clarke has made several live guest appearances with the band. He was recorded live with Stockcar Named Desire in the summer of 2005 at the Minnesota Zoo on a bill with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Look for a live CD.Their music has been described as a diverse mixture of blues, jazz, swing, country, and rockabilly roots, all coming together in a fiery fusion of high-energy, hard-driving, full-throttle rock ‘n’ roll that never fails to get pulses racing, hearts pounding, and bodies moving.Low to the ground and built for speed, baby.
