Milk The Glory
(a brief history of DT)
Once upon a time, a bank president's son built a music studio in the game room of his father's Clearwater home. The rest is history.....
The band officially known throughout the Tampa Bay Florida area as DELORIS TELESCOPE was originally formed with members: Lee Steel on guitar, Dave Fairman on bass, Russ Hammock on drums and Bruce Batton on guitar.
This early version of DT would open several shows for The Theater Band, The Fanatics and Slider but momentum didn't begin to build until a year later when
Kacy Ross (guitarist with the Theatre Band) and
Andre' Belloice (drums) took Bruce and Russ' places, setting the wheels in motion that would catapult this group into Florida's musical history forever.
Not long after the gigs started to roll in, and very shortly after the Miller High Life "Rock To Riches" band showcase held at Mark Twain's in Tampa, Andre' decided to retire his sticks leaving a space behind the drums that would quickly be filled by
Ricky Wilcox (drummer with the Theatre Band).
With a solid line-up, Telescope sets out to dominate the local scene with the lone battle cry:
"We're gonna play our own music even if we have to ram it down their throats".
At it's inception, there was a group effort to be the "quietest band playing the circuit" says frontman Ross. That mission didn't last long with Bonecrusher Wilcox driving the rhythm. Ricky is a solid rock drummer in the purest sense and helped to shape a sound that would take this group from clubs like Ms. Lucky's and the Red Rose Pub in Tampa, the Cheshire Cat and Swamp Club in Gulfport, The ACL Club in St.Petersburg, and opening act for MTV bands on their rise to the top, all the way to 98Rock's first "Nu Rock Festival" at Jannus Landing where they were joined onstage by harmonica legend, Early Bluebird and together with Small Population, The Wankers, The Headlights and The Flaming O's, entertained an croud of close to 10 thousand attendees.
Seeking the American dream of family life, a house, a car, a dog etc..., Lee departs from the band, leaving behind the DT name he conceived several years before, never to be replaced by a second guitarist. DT went on as a 3 piece group to open for Men Without Hats at St.Petersburg's Bayfront Centre only weeks after Lee's departure.
As the years went on, Dave Fairman (the last original member) also bowed out of the line-up leaving an opening at the bass rig that would become a revolving door which included Manny from Four-In-Legion, Eddie Pecchio, and several other bassmen until finally settling on Stevie Grandmaison (best known as front man for The Limosine Band, and Stevie & The Hotheads).
The final trio of Ross, Wilcox, and Grandmaison would continue along a path for another 10 years that would make the name Deloris Telescope a household phrase throughout Florida, winning countless awards, appearing on radio, television, on film, and recording a string of highly successful albums including "Milk The Glory", "Tres Miserables", "Dolorus", "Ting" and "Xenolith".
Deloris Telescope called it quits in 1996, 13 years after it all began, but the music and the memory lives on!
