INTRO
Polina Smolova is one of the most well-known and successful performers in the Belarusian music community at the moment. The last year has brought plenty awards to the singer: the Grand Prix at the Slavonic Bazaar-2005, a contest for young performers; a honorary title "Inhabitant of the Year"; and according to the results of voting at Belarusian Music Awards "Teleportation" she's named "Person of the Year".
The next step in her career - victory at the Belarusian selection concert for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Polina will represent Belarus with the song 'Mama', specially written for the European competition (lyrics by Andrey Kostiugov and music by Sergey Sukhomlin).
11th of March Polina has started her promo-tour which includes about 15 countries to visit. Kiev became the first city in the tour list of the performer. Apart from Ukraine other countries, such as Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Malta desired to greet the Belarusian participant.
REFERENCE POINT
Polina first came to prominence at the qualifying round of the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest. With her Song of Love, she became a fixture in Belarusian show business but the following year was even more crucial. In spring 2005 her debut album Smile was released nationwide. Tracks from the album, such as Rain, Song of Love and Flower were near the top of the charts for a long time and the album sold out very quickly. In summer, Polina took part in a competition at the Slavonic Bazaar 2005 international festival of arts and won the Grand Prix.
BACKGROUND
Polina began her music career in various children amateur bands. The singer sang at children folklore theatre " Gostsitsa", as well as in the Belarussian folk band "Zhavoronochki". After graduation from Glinka Music School she joined the faculty of folk song at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Art. Apart from singing, Polina was a teacher and manager of the children's folk band "Tsernichka". At the moment she is an artist in the Youth Pop Theatre and a soloist of the MVD Orchestra.
