About Me
JL, a NYC music producer and mastering engineer, has been steadily banging out the beats since 1991. In addition to holding a degree in music technology from NYU, his work in audio engineering ranges from producing for 50 Cent, GZA (of the Wu Tang Clan),Talib Kweli, J-Live, MF Grimm, Pharoahe Monch, and Cunninlynquists to consulting for one of the world’s leading forensic musicologists on cases for Prince, Michael Jackson, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Phil Collins, Sting, Alicia Keys and Diddy.
He has released hip-hop through his own Freshchest Records imprint distributed worldwide by Caroline/EMI, as well as licensed tracks to major TV & Film clients including MTV, Showtime, and FOX. As an artist, his drum-n-bass tracks, released through Breakbeat Science and Rawkus have received an overwhelming response by some of d-n-b’s top DJ’s including DJ Hype, Dieselboy, AK1200, Dara, DB, Bailey and John Peel, as well as receiving remix treatment from the likes of UK’s Dom ‘n’ Roland and Total Science.
Currently, JL is an engineer at one of NYC's top mastering facilities, The Lodge (www.thelodge.com) and has worked on projects for acclaimed artists including Garbage, Against Me!, Vanessa Carlton, Say Anything, Dion, Jeff Buckley, The Shins, Louis XIV, Ween, Gogol Bordello, Shiny Toy Guns, and Tiesto. With a handful of versatile projects in the pipeline in both production and mastering, JL is definitely a formidable force to look out for in years to come.
