About Me

current exhibition:
"She Keeps It In Play / They Don't Know What To Call It"
Curated by Matt Morris

Featuring the work of:
Arthur Brum
Tracy Featherstone
Amy Scarpello
Lindsey Whittle
Paige Williams

May 2-30th, 2009
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 2th, 7 – 10pm

Gallery hours are Saturdays 12-4.

This exhibition shows that the basic elements of “abstract art” (such as shape, color, geometry, proximity, and mass) are qualities inherent not just to Modern Art, but to the entire tangible world.
HISTORY

In December of 1992, semantics gallery was founded as a co-operative, alternative exhibition space (making it one of the longest surviving co-ops in the city). Since we do not rely on profit to survive, we have the freedom to provide un-restricted exhibition opportunities to emerging and non-traditional artists. Originally located in Over-the-Rhine, in 1995 semantics was flooded out and forced onto the streets. We have since found home at 1107 harrison ave in the Brighton area of Cincinnati, right off central parkway and just south of the western hills viaduct.

CALENDAR

Openings are generally held on the first saturday of every month from 7-10 pm, although check back a few weeks in advance to be sure as it sometimes varies.

HOURS

Gallery hours are saturdays from 12-4 or by appointment with the artist currently exhibiting.

LOCATION

We are located at 1107 Harrison Ave. in the Brighton area of Cincinnati, Ohio.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Artists, future exhibitors, creative types, and generous philanthropists.

EXHIBITING AT SEMANTICS

We are currently working on developing an online option for applying for an exhibition. However, currently the best way to apply for a show is to come to an opening and introduce yourself to a semantics member. We aren't hard to find, just ask around. We're friendly and most of us don't bite. Please note that we are an all-volunteer organization, and cannot always reply to inquiries sent through myspace.
