About Me

Hi - thanks for dropping by. I'm Payne, a native of the Northern South Pacific and I've been playing guitar since I was about 14. Through out high school I played in a number of garage and bar bands. I eventually became the protege of the Grand Master Monte Kipfigtoperfuf and traveled the world with him in his quest for smooth-like-good-gravy guitar tone. When his interests ran counter to the world spanning evil orgainization Wally Mart, well, that is just somthing I don't like to talk about. Disheartened I put down the guitar and went underground. I was a student at many different colleges but am just a few credits shy of several degrees. Still, I was able to practice as a chiropractor/dentist at an Antarctic research station for sometime. Other endevours included runway hand modeling, corporate repo man, and technical advisor for a number of cooking shows. Music is something that I'll never be away from and to that end, I started playing again and reentered the scene under the pseudonym "Emily Joblanski." I played in a number of different projects but when my brother, Rob, asked me to help him on a little endeavor come to be known as STROKE it was like coming home. I set up a modest practice and recording space in my basement. I jam and write and record my own material and thought this might be a cool arena to share some of my music with others. The stuff you will see on this site that has nothing to do with STROKE but rather, other stuff that fires my rockets. It is after all my space. Stand and be true, say thankee

The Signal and me

The Signal - a bitchin' podcast totally dedicated to Joss Whedon's Firefily and Serenity - is using my song "All That Has Come To Pass" for the intro and outro to their show's email segment! If you are...

Cirillion

This is a tune recorded last fall. I really dig the Line 6 gear I'm using and I think I'm getting halfway good at getting my tone out of it. Main rhythm guitar is vaguely U2/Edge-ish in tone - reall...

Steppin' Razor

This song REALLY says, "I wish I was Joe Satriani!" but I'm okay with that. Bluesy riff with a phrygian based melody and a wierd worbling harmonic at the end of the solo. The title is taken from the...

Soar

This tune isn't about "Battlestar Galactica" though I do think of vipers when I hear it. The Mark II's are a lot sexier than the Mark 7's, no? This is one of the better tunes I've done recently. Bac...

When Doves Cry About Love

This is a song I recorded a few years ago, and it shows. The production is not to great - the drums sound horrible. The whole groove feels very artificial and thin. But the guitar performance was a...

All That Has Come To Pass

A song about Joss Whedon's "Firefly" and "Serenity." As an instrumental, you'd never know this was a tune about Whedon's kick ass sci-fi/western. It's about journey, because as Book says, "How you g...

Recording gear

I record my stuff on a Boss BR1180 hard disk recorder with CD burner. I've had it a few years and Boss has since put two models that surpass mine but the 1180 works great for me. This unit is also t...
