Band Members: Its not rocket science but when thinking about a band name for your musical outfit, its true that the range of names goes from the absurd to down right boring. Try thinking of a name for your dog or cat without it having long lasting connotations
Not as easy as it seems is it?
When Gabe (Vocals, Guitar), Tookie (Basses) and Damo (Drums) sat down to do this very thing it became apparent that they wanted something that was void of stupid connotations, universally known and simple. Over a few beers a hole in the wall pub in Perth they decided on ONE to be it.call it whatever but at least they had a name!
Fast forward one year later and here we have the very first tastes of a band hungry to get on with it. After spending a year in a rehearsal room and developing a sound it was time to put it to tape. Enter producer Craig Harnath (Jet, Franz Ferdiand, Oasis, Airbourne) to step up and record it in a day. It wasnt about being perfect and making everything right, its about capturing a moment when 3 heads beat as ONE. Excuse the pun but how could you resist? Oh dear!
Yes, its rock music and yes we like it. Influenced by everything but if you want some headers you could list Led Zeppelin, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, Dinosaur Jr, Sly and Robbie and anything that has a bit of attitude with talent of course. Gabe does however enjoy the odd power-pop song by the latest bleached-haired bombshell from the States but hell never admit to it!
So its time to get the show on the road. And this is where it all makes sense for them. The band love to play live - its where it all pays off. The stage is home and everyone in the audience is welcome to come in have a drink, do whatever but make sure you keep both eyes firmly on the band. Anything could happen and you wouldnt want to miss it. Use all the descriptive nouns that you would use to describe a exciting live rocknroll show and you get the idea. And you get ONE.
We also made a film clip for We are Young with a friend of ours director, Ronaldo Cortes who did an absolutely smashing job. We decided we would all jump in the car on a typically wet Melbourne night and wanted to do something that was spontaneous but included the theme of a man losing his mind while running from himself, enter Gabes character. After Gabe pulled both hamstrings, cars breaking down, getting chased out of an underground train station because of security fearing terrorist threats - we finally finished shooting at 4am in the morning.
