Dakin Auret (also known as 'Durban') is a DJ, producer, promoter and events coordinator with a flare for music, ranging from Downtempo, Dub, Reggae, HipHop, Rare Grooves, Jungle, Trip-Hop, Acid Jazz and Funky/Techy/Chunky House. Dakin was born and raised in Durban, South Africa. He was a music lover from a young age and very soon became an avid collector. He immigrated to the United States when he was eighteen and began DJing. While building his DJ career he studied Sound Engineering and graduated with a MIDI applications degree. At the age of 21 he built his first recording studio and began producing many styles of music including House, Dub, Hip Hop, Trip Hop and Downtempo. All the while Dakins DJ career continued to grow, playing at such venues as 'Proof Bar' in Orange County, 'Aubergine' in Sand Diego and 'Spundae' at 'Club Circus' in Hollywood.As well as DJing, Dakin got involved in promoting and coordinating weekly events. He Hosted a Funky/Techy/Chunky House event called 'Elements' alongisde California native DJ Giangstar, where they had such talent as Da Sunlounge, Jake Childs, Eric Davenport, Lillyanne, Jacob London, Joplin, J Bird, Burrito's & Chronic and Eddie B gracing the decks. He also hosted a weekly Dub/Roots/Dancehall event called 'Dubshine Sundays' at the 'Proof Bar' in Orange County with guests such as Dainjah, I-Ray, Mr. Keys and Selekta M-16 to name a few.In 2007 Dakin decided to leave the US, traveling around the UK and then spending a month in Thailand where he played at the legendary 'Marine Club' in Pattaya and the new 'Club Mixx' on Walking Street.Dakin then returned to South Africa and teamed up with fellow DJ and old friend Greg Lynch. As a team they dropped back to back sets at Durbans finest clubs: 'Tilt', '330', 'Society', 'The Lounge' and 'Club Refom'.2008 was a very busy year. As well as hosting the Deep/Funky/Tech House weekly events 'Tempura Nights' at 'Sumo's', and 'Deeper' at' Zacks', he also started two Downtempo and Trip Hop weekly's called 'Cafe De Afrique' at Ushaka, and 'Burlesque Wednesdays' at Bean Bag Bohemia. All these events are still going strong today.Dakin's career reached a pinnacle when he won first place at the prestigious DMC provincial championship's in Durban on the 20th of June. This helped Dakin branch over into the Durban Hip Hop scene and soon became resident at 'Club Reform' and 'Blacque Lounge'. Dakin then started an Old School Hip Hop bi-monthly event called 'Bust a Move', which is also still going strong today. 2008 was full of outdoor festivals with Dakin playing at 'Green for Go' and 'Jalarupa' as well as playing a Downtempo and Jungle set at the 'Earthdance' festival in La Mercy. Another pinnacle in Dakins career was playing a supporting act for legendary DJ Krush. He had been wanting to work with some live musicians and thought this to be the perfect opportunity. He performed a Jazzy Trip Hop set alongside live saxophonist, Mark Coque. Dakin also played a supporting set for Brazilian based group Napalma at 'Society' and the band 'Love Jones' at the 'Sun Coast Casino'.
