About Me

Teacher, dancer, reader, Luke's wife, Emily's mom, new-found martial artist, learning to be better in the sack, trying to make people laugh, and just keep it all together. Um... I'm totally cool... Yeah... uh-huh.

My Interests

I like to tap dance. Yes, people still do that. I also like to cook things, even if I don't want to eat them.

I'd like to meet:

I don't know, maybe myself in an alternate universe. Oh, and I think Ben Folds. I heard he lives around here.

Music:

I love music, but I don't know how to make it. It can be very frustrating, especially if you live with a particularly brilliant musician. I'm currently loving Ben Folds. This man is a genius. I'm trying to convince my husband to stalk him for a co-writing appointment. I love to talk about music and I could go on and on.

Movies:

If you don't like American Beauty and/or The Big Lebowski we can't hang out. I watched Dead Man Walking recently. I sat on my couch by myself and sobbed. It's way better than church. By the way, I never cry at movies, so this is really saying something. I have odd and varied taste. I prefer slightly independent not quite blockbuster types of movies. I have a strange love for comic book films. Some things can definately be too weird though. I don't get anime. Someone please explain.

Television:

CSI re-runs on Spike... Daily Show on the DVR... Food Network... What else is there? Oh, and you should watch Planet Earth. Spectacular. I can't wait for the next season of So You Think You Can Dance. I'm so happy to see dance becoming main stream. Check out the fox dance by Wade Robeson. It's beautiful and Nigel is a dick for not loving it.

Books:

From my list over 300 books, I am currently reading The Good Negress by A.J. Verdelle. It's pretty good, but I'd really like to recommend Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It's science fiction and has a child hero. It's a light read, but a terrific adventure. You really get drawn in. A student is insisting I read A Child Called It. I'm not in the mood for depressing books right now, but she went and checked it out of the library for me, so I guess I'd better read it. I read constantly. I'm an English teacher. Don't get me started on the importance of books. Also, don't check my grammar too closely. I said I was an English teacher, not an editor.

Heroes:

Gandhi, Luke Dick

A Fond Farewell

Apologies

I've been reading a lot about depression lately, and I think I have it. In fact, I think I may have always had it off and on. A sense of melancholy that ebbs and flows in and out of my otherwise mu...

Memory

I've been meaning to write for a while, but I haven't been able to think of anything nice to say.  The transition to a new job has been difficult.  I love my students, but most of them don't...

Shaking the dust

I'm still recovering from the last Redbud Revival show.  Nobody was emotional, though some people were very drunk.  My mind hasn't been able to comprehend the fact that I will soon be leavin...

She's leaving home

Yes, it's true.  I'm moving to Nashville.  I'm pretty ambivilent about the whole thing.  The reasons I don't want to live there are largely symbolic.  What do people think when the...

My Feet Hurt

Today I taught non-stop with no plan.  I give the EOI next week and have a show on Tuesday.  I am exhausted.  Why do things go wrong all at once?  Why does extra work pile on top o...

Brokeback Mountain

I saw Brokeback Mountain last night and I can't stop thinking about it.  Such amazing performances.  Such a heartbreaking story.  How could I help but cry?  Every moment was grippi...

Scientists of the world unite

One would think that, with all the technology we have these days, we could have done away with laundry by now.  This never ending cycle of cleaning my family's clothes seems to rule my life at ti...

If thinking about thinking is called metacognition, is blogging about blogging called metablogging?  I seriously doubt it.  Anyway, as a first timer, I thought I should go ahead and mention ...
