My name is Eric Hurnyak and I am an artist, musician and writer out of Long Island. I have been the bass player for a few local bands over the past 17 years, but about 12 years ago I decided that I wanted to do something different with music and approach it from an artists standpoint.Back in 1994, I was in a band that was creatively unfulfilling for me. It was a traditional rock and roll band that seemed to be going somewhere, but there was nothing exciting or inspiring for me in the music we were writing.That same year, I started a side project with a long time friend Rob Ramsden. Our focus was to push the limits with sound with out getting too serious about what we were doing using guitars, bass and a multitude of effect pedals. The project was based on pure improv and became the most exicting project I had ever been involved with. We used to envision ourselves as antennas picking up on the vibe of our surroundings and translating it into music. I developed a lot of my sound and philosophy in this project. Life ended up taking Rob and I in different directions, but I still wanted to create those moments we had in our jam sessions.Today, Most of the music I work with is designed to create a background ambience. A lot of my music is created through improvisational layering of sound. I find that this method gives me more of a spiritual connection to the music. Over the past ten years or so, I have played the majority of the instruments in my music, but I am always looking to work with other musicians. The latest project I have been working on is called Illuminati Murdock which can be found at www.myspace.com/illuminatimurdock .I currently am one of the founding members of Alternative Arts of Long Island LLC, which is a company that showcases the work of Long Island based artists and musicians who have something different to offer. There are a lot of really talented artists and musicians on our site and we invite everyone to check them out at www.altartli.com .We are always looking for new bands and artists from the Long Island area to showcase on the site and we are also looking for anyone from anywhere to join the site as a member to help support the artists on our site. We work with musicians and artists at no charge and membership is totally free.
