I am a promoter of Zouk, (pronounced Zuke) music/dancing in the USA. I produce entertaining evening events as well as perform this dynamic way of dancing at nightclubs, world music and cultural festivals. I have also taught, developing hundreds of students along the way in the studio. Through the efforts of others like myself, this has spread to 15, 19, 22 countries in the past couple of years months (Way to go, guys! Keep it up!) .
Born in the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, Zouk Dancing, originally known also as "Kole Sere", (French for "tightly glued at the hips") would later leap cultures to Brazil and Argentina, where it was developed into a structured dance, and with additional inspiration from Cape Verde (Cabo-Zouk) and Angola (Kizomba), and then relaunched to Europe and Asia.
Zouk is also a world music style with recordings ranging from a heavy R&B or light Jazz influence to Arabic melodies, familiar Latino sounds and even Hip-Hop, all moving to a backdrop of an addictive tropical rhythm. The ensuing dance thus imitates the ambiance of the seductive, and often thunderous, lumbering beat. The foundation of this particular style of dancing complements natural movement and allows for growth in a number of directions. Zouk has a vast library of choreography, a little of which I demonstrate below. The lyrical movement technique learned here transforms a dancer's performance of other styles as well.
You will never dance the same again.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who enjoys this type of music or who loves dancing. I recently relocated to Chicago and I am looking for a new dance partner whom I can perform with and teach students. I will train someone who will be committed to learning and offer choreographic ideas. A flexible, strong back is a good thing to have. Partnering experience is key. Knowledge of Arabic movement will give you a head start. Please refer anyone who might be interested to this website.

The newest substyle addition to our family is called “Zouk Revolution”. It was created to encourage changes in the tempo of the dance relative to the music and thus another degree of freedom of expression. Watch Max & Larissa’s brilliant performance of Kaysha's new song - "Something Going On" at our last international congress.

Following a 2004 inaugural congress in Barcelona, Spain,
and other overseas events, the second international Zouk Congress
will take place in Brasilia, Brazil - February 17 - 20, 2007
