SYNOPSIS
Hit It! is about a boy from Harlem named JR who all his life dreamed of being a famous musician like Chic Webb, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, and Tito Puente, to name a few. Everyday after school he would go straight home so he could work on his craft or go downtown to the 42nd Street subway station to meet his partner to BANG there buckets on the platform for money hoping to one day be discovered.
There is one problem though, Jr's grandmother, who is raising him, does not believe in the his dreams because his grandfather, who is deceased, had the same dreams but never made it. SHE would rather see him dream of becoming a doctor or a lawyer. Something more promising for his future than a musician.
So every time she heard him singing and BANGING on everything around the house or in his room, she storms in and shouts, BOY STOP HITTIN ON EVERY THING. GET YOUR HEAD OUT THE CLOUDS AND FIND YOU A BOOK TO READ OR FIND A JOB OR SOMETHING. A REAL JOB NONE OF THAT STREET PERFORMING MESS.Jr becomes very hurt and upset so he storms out of the apartment with his drum sticks and buckets and head's for the subway to take the train downtown to 42nd Street.
But in the midst of his train ride he goes on this big musical journey after meeting this old homeless jazz musician named Henry Madison. Each time the train pulls into a different station they find themselve's in the time and place of one of Jr's musical heroes. He gets to perform amung them as well as learn about the history of the drum its culture dance and music.
HIT IT! is about following your DREAMS no matter who or what is trying to discourage you from accomplishing what you believe in.
