Make an on-line slide show at www.OneTrueMedia.comChantell D. Christopher, an accomplished performer, is no stranger to the acting circuit. She has graced the stages of dozens of Broadway productions and other stage plays as well as having credits in several major Hollywood films. This Greenwood, South Carolina native is not your ordinary dream-filled actor, however. She is a double threat; garnering major success as both an actress and a singer. Her natural talent in musical theater has led her to work with some of the industry’s biggest names, including playwright extraordinaire Tyler Perry and Bishop T.D. Jakes, whose record label produces Grammy award-winning gospel music. Her most notable performances include “The Wiz,” “The Good Times Are Killing Me,” “The Colored Museum,” “Motown Showcase,” “The Ties That Bind,” “West Side Story,” and “The Amen Corner.” Chantell began her journey to stardom as an extraordinary teenager inspired by the show “Good Times” and driven by an undeniable passion for the arts. While in Greenwood, Chantell developed her interest by performing in several school and church plays as well as competing in several beauty pageants. She then went on to perfect her craft as a communications major at South Carolina State University, performing in stage plays throughout her collegiate career. Chantell continued to cultivate her talent in community productions outside of school, and was active in her school’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national co-ed service fraternity. Her indisputable talent landed her on the national stage in the Alphas’ National Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant, placing second-runner up in the Nation. Soon after graduation, Chantell took to the road to put her talents to work as a paid performer in the acting arena. “My mother always told me that if I was going into acting, that I may as well be a paid actor rather than a struggling one, says Chantell. “I knew that if I was going to do anything, I was going to do it right. ” Armed with her mother’s words, Chantell’s talents brought her to Atlanta, Georgia after a couple of brief stints in New York. She also went to Los Angeles, where she worked as a nanny an personal assistant. In Atlanta, she auditioned for the then up-and-coming playwright, Tyler Perry, in his first project titled, “I Know I’ve Been Changed.” Chantell got the part of Ellen and began touring with the show soon after. As Chantell’s star rose, a long list of more coveted roles came her way, including the lead role of Dorothy in Henderson-Davis Theater‘s “The Wiz” and multiple parts in the Alliance Theater’s “The Ties that Bind.” The road to stardom hasn’t always been easy, as any successful performer will attest to, and Chantell has experienced more than her share of obstacles along her journey. With her calm demeanor and positive spirit, however, it is hard to imagine her ever having a disappointing experience. All that is needed is just one conversation with Chantell, though, to realize what keeps her so emotionally and physically grounded in such a competitive field---her relationship with God. “I always have kept a communication with God through prayer and I let him guide my way,” says Chantell. “Even when it was hard for to find work in L.A., I kept talking to God, because I knew that there was more for me out there,” recalls Chantell. “I told God, ‘I didn’t come to L.A. for this.’ It is that same dedication and her ‘won’t take no for an answer’ spirit that has landed Chantell credits in major Hollywood movies such as “50 First Dates” (Sony) and “Daddy’s Little Girls” (Lionsgate). She has also worked in several independent films, as well as acted in six other Tyler Perry projects, including “Madea Goes To Jail” , “Madea’s Class Reunion” , "Why Did I Get Married", "Behind Closed Doors", "A Change Is Gonna Come", and "I Know I Been Changed" Chantell’s goal of not leaving any stone unturned has led her to several modeling projects, including a commercial for Verizon Wireless and print work for Bell South. She has also lended her soulful, commanding voice to various soundtracks of the projects she has worked on, including IWT Productions’ “I Wrote That(Children’s DVD Series).” Yes, without a doubt Chantell Christopher is just beginning, and with her impressive background and her faith in God’s power to guide her, truly Chantell’s own words ring true: “There’s more for me out there. It’s bigger than this, and I’m going to continue to work at it until there’s none left.”
