About Me

I'm cynical and pessimistic because I pay too much attention to things that, by all rights, I shouldn't. On average, I like many people I meet, but most people/things I am exposed to make me upset for one reason or another. To be concise, contemporary human existence is not what it says it is, nor is it what it ought to be; not so much for myself, but just for people on a whole. I consider myself lucky in most areas of my life; the difficulty is reconciling my luck with the seemingly endless misfortune of others. I fancy myself to know the cause of much of this misfortune, (religious fanaticism, political corruption, fervent nationalism, wanton ignorance, irrational fear, general stupidity) but I don't know how to solve any of these problems, and I'm undoubtedly forgetting many others that are equally important. This, in turn, makes me anxious, pissed off, and generally despondent in light of what I see as an utterly helpless defeat at the hands of external and unchangeable, yet characteristically "human" forces. The world no longer seems like something that I can, or by extension, should even try to change for the better. This is something I find difficult to accept but, at the end of the day, I don't feel as though wasting my life or energy in the naive and pointless pursuit of peace, love, and happiness is any more constructive. I try, instead, to contribute to the one thing that I feel is worth contributing to and fighting for, and that's art. I enjoy movies thoroughly; I like stupid ass movies for base entertainment value just like everyone else, but I especially like long, slow depressing movies about the human condition much, much more. I used to enjoy drawing, but the irritatingly ambiguous death march of art school has all but destroyed my desire to do it for fun recently. My main love interest is music: I am an enthusiastic student of and participant in the art of calculated noise. Much like my taste for movies, I can enjoy some ear candy for the sake of enjoying something that just "feels good", but I feel as though I gain the most from music that makes me use my brain actively when listening to it. Dynamics, melody, consonance, dissonance, complexity, and attention to detail are what I listen for when I'm listening to music. I hope that my life will allow me the opportunity to contribute artistically to the world, but the world isn't returning my phone calls yet.P.S. Break up with your boyfriends/girlfriends. Unless they're perfect*. * i.e. break up with your boyfriends/girlfriends.

Dont read this if you dont like my ideas.

I used to be afraid of death, when I was a little kid. It seemed so frighteningly futile to live my life, which would undoubtedly be full of meaningless successes and failures, if at the end of it all...
