Melodeego Means Music In Action
Peter Malagodi always wanted to do more with his music than just entertain. After the demise of his former band Inner Pink, (Noise Magaizine's Best New Band 2001) Peter set out to find his true calling, and Melodeego was formed. Just as the band’s debut album, “Runnin Outta Daylight†started gaining popularity, Melodeego was invited to headline the kick-off rally for the “March to Re-energize NH†in the summer of 2007. Peter, Greg, and Mark didn’t know it, but they were about to find their mission.
It was over 100 degrees and the air was thick with humidity as the speeches dragged on throughout the day. Hundreds of people were gathered to march across the State of New Hampshire, demanding green jobs and clean energy. It was clear that everyone at the rally cared deeply about the environmental and human crisis before us all, but you could see in people’s faces how overwhelmed they were.
As Melodeego took the stage, images of Woodstock flashed in Peter’s mind. When he looked out into the audience and the band started to play he could feel an energy he had never felt. The music came alive and the audience got the feeling of connection they were looking for. The musicians looked at each other and at once knew Melodeego’s music would never be just for entertainment anymore. They had to take action.
Fast forward to February 2009. Melodeego was headlining at the Black Cat in Washington DC during the national climate conference “Power Shift ‘09â€. A crowd of nearly one thousand packed into the club with a line stretching out the door. Less than two years after the band made a commitment to create “Music in Action†Melodeego was surrounded by a huge community of supporting fans, passionate about creating a just, thriving, and sustainable world for everyone. From Melodeego’s first rally on the Boston Common for the Global Warming Solutions Act, to touring the new EP “Embrace Your Energy Revolution†in support of the Power Vote campaign, Melodeego had tapped into something much bigger than itself. People were hungry for action and needed a band to lead the charge and give voice to a new generation.
The hype of these events along with Melodeego’s powerful stage show and inspired songwriting soon attracted the attention of industry veterans Bonnie Milner and Danny Bernini. The two took on the task of creating â€The World Is You,†the follow up to Embrace Your Energy Revolution. Bonnie and Danny’s experience, talent, and faith in the band pushed Melodeego to a new level of performance. The message of hope, responsibility and interconnection comes through loud and clear in the chorus of the title track: “You seem so far away but it’s not true. We are one body and the world is you.â€
As the CD release for “The World Is You†approached, no one could have foreseen the global tragedy just around the corner.
On April 20th, 2010, at 9:45 PM, a cloud of methane gas shot up a drill column on BP’s Deepwater Horizon and exploded, killing 11 people. As reports about the environmental and economic impact became more devastating everyday, it became clear to the members of Melodeego that “The World is You†had to help inspire people to take action. The musicians, with the guidance of producer Bonnie Milner, immediately began to plan their next big campaign. Melodeego soon announced “BP: Boston’s Pissed!†a campaign to “take all that built up pain and turn it around.â€
The goal of the campaign is to create a clean green music scene in Boston that is powered by 100% clean electricity. Melodeego will use music, art, and media to give voice to the anger and pain that Boston feels about the tragedy in the Gulf, and “turn it around†by raising support and funds to build “LowResâ€, a bicycle powered sound and light system for public performances.
Melodeego will do public performances, direct actions, and launch a creative media campaign to offer the people of Boston a way to take action and begin to break our addiction from dirty, dangerous, and unjust fossil fuels forever.
